I bought a dvd movie from a chinese store but when i tried playing it on my dvd player, it gives me "Not NTSC" error and the movie doesn't play.

I tried to backup the dvd using dvd shrink which has the "Region Free" option but I still get the same result. However, I lent the movie to my friend and she has a player that plays the movie, but when I tried it on my DVD player, I still get teh "Not NTSC" error.

Should dvd shrink NOT remove the region code?

Maybe a different format from NTSC, i.e., PAL?
    don't think it's a Region problem.

You are right, the dvd is PAL format, even though the dvd box says NTSC...hmmm...weird. My friend's dvd player can switch between NTSC & PAL format. Is there a way to rip the movie to NTSC format so I can watch it on my DVD player which doesn't support PAL format like my friend's dvd player?
