I'd like to know why catfreak and kinza have different opinions on Samsung/Beall media.

I'm curious to know what the manufacturer IDs are for both these medias.

Samsung disks are manufactured by the following
    BeAll
    Taiyo Yuden
    Ritek

I would say if you got the ones from Taiyo Yuden you would be good to go..

the ones from Ritek probablly Ok

The ones from BeALL would be taking a chance on a known poor media manufacturer..

I would call them and ask what the manufacturer code ID is on them. If they won't tell you forget about them. This is just my opinion :)
