I have a Sony Vaio RS720G running Windows XP. The drive will open/close, but it will not recognize anything (CDs or DVDs) I put into it.

Device manager says it's working properly. I have tried uninstalling the driver, restarting windows, but that doesn't help either.

Any other help is greatly appreciated!

Maybe a dusty lense. Try cleaning it. I like to open them and clean the lense with an alcohol soaked cotton swab. If you dont want to tamper with the drive then try a lense cleaneer desigened for cd players. One that uses a liquid.

Okay, I'll try that. Guess it couldn't hurt anything. I'm not getting a response out of it anyways.

    Thanks for your reply.
