Sharing Harddrive space from My laptop and Old PC?

    I have a new laptop and i have a ol pc that i would like to use as storage, for movies music and suck, is there a way when at home, to conncet my PC Through my router it has ethernet ports avalible and on the Pc it also has ethernet ports. If i did some how connect them, would I be able to sotre all my music on that pc but controll it from this one?
    and also, I have a ipod so would i be able to sync the music from my laptop but store the files on the PC to save my Laptops HD?
