I have searched thru your site [and some other Forums] but haven’t seen anything specific to all my problems.
I’ve been able to burn DVDs for years with same set up until now.
I hope I’ve provided all relevant info.

Various Problems I encountered with Nero:
    - Illegal Disc
    - Could not perform Start of Disc-at-once
    - Burn process failed at 2x-
    - Recorder State: Failed

    Various Problems encountered with Decrypter:
    - I/O error
    - Cannot write medium - Incompatible Format
    - Failed to Reserve Track

AND then all of a sudden, all of the time now:
    - when I insert a blank -R or a just erased -RW disc, I get
    - Green lite then changes to orange and goes back to green.
    - Insert any blank disc and open Nero [or not] or Decrypter to burn.
    - Goes back to orange but stays there indefinitely
    - Also there’s an faint audible cliking sound about every 2 seconds from the burner.
    - My computer then becomes squirrely, basically non-responsive, until I remove the disc.
[Because orange lit burner is draining resources?]

    My Computer:
    - I have Windows XP SP2 Home .
    - Until a few days ago I was able to burn with Shrink and Nero, sometimes also with Decrypter.
    - Because of my TV DVD player, I am restricted to DVD-Rs and DVD-RWs. But I have not found a brand of DVD-Rs lately that work . [Tried: -R: TDK, Maxell, Memorex, HP, Sony, Fujifilm, & some others.]
    - But in the past I had always been successful using -RWs.
    - I have uninstalled & re-installed Nec RW ND-2500A USB Device with v6.
    - I have re-started computer after each change.
    - I have not recently installed any other programs or security programs.
    - Because of, and during the problems I was experiencing noted above, I upgraded to use Nero7. I was successful burning several DVD-RWs until couple days ago. [But 7’s not Free so I will be going back to 6 after current problems are resolved.]
    - Below are 2 logs, 1 Nero log and 1 Decrypter log.
    - I was using the same blank Fujifilm DVD-RW made by RITEK WO1, at Speed 2X.

There is a firmware update for ur burner here, newest one looks like 1.0B

this should help with the write speeds for ur burner

    Memory in use : 73 %
    Dont multi-task when burning

    Disc Manufacturer: RITEKW - 01

good disks but not the best, what is the top rated speed of the media u have been using?

i see u havent tried verbatims, first update the firmware and see if that helps with the current media u r using, if not try verbatims, or Taiyo Yudens

    edit
Also ImgBurn(made by same person) is a better burning program than dvd decrypter cuz its updated.

    Thanks for info/recommendations.
    - I haven’t had time to go out for Verbatim
    - I uninstalled Nero 7
    - I used their general cleaning tool
    - I re-installed Nero 6
    - I re-started computer as directed
    - 1st attempt to burn with -R Memorex failed
    - 2nd attempt with -R TDK resulted in return of constant orange lite and rhythmic clicking as before.
    - 3rd attempt with -RW Fujifilm failed - noted “Recorder State: Failed”
    - 4th attempt with -RW Maxell resulted in ogange lite and cliking.
    Log below.

I went to firmware site and unzipped.
    - I don’t understand why I should change current firmware if current version had worked. I dont get the connection between orange lite/clicking and new firmware. Especially as I’ve seen comments and warnings about changing. ?
Do I need a new burner?

    - If still think I should, then I’m confused with their “Read Me.”
    - Top half directions are:
Pls note following instructions for update procedure:
Connect drive to secondary IDE channel as Master
Disconnect all slave hardware from IDE secondary Master
    Use standard UDMA-2 IDE cable
    etc

Why do that when already unzipped?

    - Bottom half directions are:
INSTALLATION: After unzipping file pls. double click on "K250GNB1.exe" file,
follow instructions. After, you have to reboot your system.
    Plus
    1 Deinstall all your burnsoftware(s),
2 I’ll try to get that
3 Reinstall and update your burn software. - I don’t think I have any software for it.

And, would verbatim be recognized by new firmware?

    - I have kept and used Decrypter as it is used in conjunction with RipIt4Me and FixVTS when I had troublesome conversions.

    - I don’t know Max speed of various discs used because I always run them at 4x or less, and also do Full erase.

alright, u dont want these installed, so use this tool to get rid of them
    http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/InCD_CleanTool.html

Not sure about the version(if it has bugs) i do know 6.0.0.18 is the best of nero 6 so u can use this tool to uninstall ur current version
    http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html
then DL this version and install
    http://filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/?539
    also dont install inCD drivers

    Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AM3
these are the worst, try those Ritek ones instead

Also if u dont want to update ur firmware pick up some verbatims(best chance of working if u dont want to update ur firmware)

u should use IMGburn rather than decrypter, these 2 made by the same person plus IMGburn is updated.

    edit
before buying a new burner u should try the firmware update and see if that helps, it should as u current firmware is 4 behind the newest.
Quick explanation of what firmware is
It helps the burner recognize the newer media that comes out and also helps the write(burn) strategies for the newer media

have you tried a differant burner?might be worth doing a chekdisc on your hard drive, and burning a little faster ie use 16x burn at 12/8x etc>but its that clicking noise thats worrying.I use decypter/anydvd to rip, and clone dvd2 to burn (I hate nero), you could try that combo using the trial versions, but you must use decent media..taiyo yuden or verbatim.Burning can be real weird, im fine with everything bar a dvdrw or a cdrw....never been successful but i can live with that.Best of luck

    - I have not purchased taiyo yuden or verbatim yet.
    - I don’t have access to anyone’s burner near by.
    - I haven’t tried any of the other suggested programs or to try different speeds because I can’t get past the frozen orange lite and clicking sound.
    - What’s caught my eye in the ‘log’ is one of the results: “Recorder State: Failed.” And I’ve yet to find an explanation of it.

    - I installed the Firmware update, Shut Down, and Re-started, no problem.
    - Inserted -R Memorex
    - Green to orange and clicking sound and after about minute went back to green.
    - Opened Nero. Cliked Disc Info. Says “No disc inserted or drive not ready. Please try again.”
    - Re-insert disc, G to O and cliking and back to G.
    - Open Nero. Again cliked Disc Info and again “No disc.....”
    - Instead tried Burn. Immediately ejected disc, “Waiting for disc”, Please insert...”
    - Closed Nero.
    - Inserted -RW Fujifilm
    - G to O and cliking for about 1 minute, back to G.
    - Opened Nero to burn. Cliked Disc Info. Says “No disc inserted or drive not ready. Please try again.”
    - Re-inserted disc. Cliked to Refresh. O to G. Cliked Disc Info. “No disc....”
    - Try Burn instead again. Ejected.

    Here's something huh?

    - I put a Movie in DVD Burner “G”
    - Green to O to G
    - I “Explore” G Drive, got Audio_TS and Video_TS folders, Explore Video_TS and got individual files.
    - and then got message no disc in G.
    - Re-inserted movie, and Played a VTS with WinDVD.
    - Burner lite flashing rapidly G,O,G but played ok.
    - Inserted blank -RW TDK and had the same "No disc..." results as in previous Reply.

    - Inserted disc again, same G to O and after a pause to G.
    - Opened Decrypter
    - Says “Device not Ready [Medium Not Present]

Its really a process of elimination here, i had a recent problem with two new pioneer burners that wouldnt work unless they were the only device on the ide channel.A new mother board sorted that as the ide controller was buggered. But starting from the beginning, chechk your cables, try a system restore, must try differant media (even just one disc) but you really need to try a diff burner, if only to eliminate yours from the equation. You can try everything you like but if the burners buggered it dont matter what you do.Its a pain i know, my fave is to start with a system restore then a full reinstall. That way you know that your starting off pretty sterile.

    - I Uninstalled Burner, Removed USB cable, unplugged
    - Did System Restore to date before pblm - [ 1st time, apprehensive about might have lost. As I see things noted [2], can I safely Delete originals?]
    - hooked up again and Re-installed Burner
    - Downloaded & re-installed Firmware update
    - I had mistakenly installed Incd when I’d installed Nero Update. But then I’d Uninstalled per prior recommendation.
I did a Incd Search & got this:
    ASTIncDec.class, ASTPostIncDec.class, ASTPreIncDec.class all in folder com/motive/JSInterp
What do I do with them?
    - I installed IMGburn [Does it work with FixIt4Me & FixVTS?]
    - I inserted a -RW Fujifilm that has accepted video and been erased a couple of times.
    - unable to get to town yet for Verbatim or to borrow different burner
    - G to O, stays O and clicks same as before. Then back to G.
    - Opened IMGburn, says Device not Ready. Medium not Present.
    - Checked Disc Info says “No disc inserted or drive not ready. Please try again.”
    - Basic pblm still the same.

My problem appears to be resolved by using Verbatim dvds, as recommended.
Although I now get “Unknown BurnPhase”, as have other submittals, the Burn is successful.
Thank you for your interest in resolving my problem.

I seem to be having somewhat a similar problem. I apologize for having such a huge forum post but I can't figure it out. Would someone mind helping?

My best guess is that the new DRM on the disc's is causing them not to burn correctly but i'm not sure.
