I have installed Shrink on my new laptop. I have the same settings as on my desktop. My desktop uses XP and my laptop uses Vista.

I'm using DVD FAB HD Decrypter to save the VOB Files to my hard drive and then I open them with Shrink. When I try to back up the files, I'm getting this error message:

    DVD Shrink 3.2

DVD Shrink has encountered an error and cannot continue.

    The specified folder is invalid

    Access is denied.

Does anyone know what's going on?
I have never seen this message before on my desktop.

    Thank you.

    mauro3,
Make sure you have the most recent version of DVDFab HD Decrypter. There are probably still scraps of copy protection left in those VTS files.

sometimes after you rip with dvdfab decrypter you need to use VOB Blanker or FixVTS to clean the file first then use dvd shrink to transcode , so try that and get back with us

    what movie is it?

One might also try to remove shrink and reinstall.

    2 things,

    1) Vista needs resources badly and needs at least 2(better 4) Gbs of RAM

    2) as stated some of the newer dvds have hidden encryption that require VobBlanker to remove prior to transcoding and fixvts

Is Shrink acessing the video TS file? This is the file necessary for shrink to work with.

    1) I have 2Gbs of RAM

    2) I backed up this movie on my XP desktop with no problems. I used DVD FAB HD Decrypter and Shrink. I didn't use VobBlanker or Fixvts.

The part I don't understand is - Why can I back up the movie on my desktop, but not on my laptop, if I'm using the same program/version and movie?

It has to be something with Vista and its settings.
    Don't you think?

how can I check this..?? the movie will open in Shrink, everything is there, I've tried "full disc", "re-author" "main movie only" but when I click backup to create an Iso Image File I get the error.
Is not the movie either, I've tried a different one, still not working.

This was my answer fro the "El Cantante " thread

Hi all, had the same prob. Found the solution, in using shrink, use reauthor mode and then use the start and end frames (next to the big X on the DVD compliation line) At the beginning edit past the "Picturehouse" avatar and edit almost to the beginning where J.Lo sttarts. At the end, edit out the last 10 seconds or so. THis should allow shrink to do it's thing. I believe that they somehow placed in a subroutine that does not allow shrink to dump its data into the memory file and then shrink uses up all the Ram memory -- out of memory (use the task manager to verify). Found a similar prob in the movie BUG also.

What u r expierencing may be similar, hope this helps

got it!!! I know what the problem was: I right-clicked on the Shrink icon and opened the properties, then compatibility, privilage level. I didn't have that option check marked. I checked it and now Shrink works like a gem.

thank you all for your efforts in trying to help me solve this problem.

I too was not aware of that little option in Shrink.

    Duely noted. Thanks.

The option isn't a Shrink option but an operating system (OS) selection. It works with other programs as well. It's so programs written for older OSs can be used on systems with newer OSs. If you do the same thing on an XP system, you'll notice earlier operating systems listed for compatibility modes.

I've heard different accounts of Shrink working and not working on Vista. I've noticed in some of the cases the fix mentioned here is what it took to get Shrink to work. It's definitely a good starting point when we run into a Vista system not working with Shrink. It's probably a good thing to remember for other programs that haven't been updated for Vista.
