    charrell ,
Get rid of the CMC disks and try Verbatim or Taiyo Yudens. If you have an OfficeMax around their weekend add had 50 blank Verbatim DVD's for $12.99.

Try to not burn too close to the outer rim. Set DVD target size to custom-4350mb

Not too sure about the burner if the firmware needs to be updated as it could be a re-badged Benq, IO-Magic or something else. Go to the computer manuf. site and see if there is a firmware update for that drive

Follow the instructions (close all other programs, take any discs out of the drive, dont turn anything off untill it says done) and you should be fine.

There's nothing tough about updating the firmware. I, too, was apprehensive about doing it the first time, but as others said, just close every program, remove everything from the optical drives, and make sure you don't use the computer while it's updating. That's it.
