First of all I would like to thank all that contribute to this site, i've always just searched the forums to find the solutions I need but this time I couldn't find a very descriptive answer.
I have a scph-70012 v12 slim ps2, and i am pretty sure it just shat the bed last night. When attempting to play ps2 games or DVD’s it just makes whirling whizzing and the occasional loud click sound ending in a disc read error. However ps1 games, cd's, and one indigo colored ps2 game still load just fine. When the indigo ps2 game loads the whole case starts to vibrate and sounds like its going to shoot through the ceiling. From what i’ve read so far this means the laser is dying. I’ve never modded or even broken the seal on my ps2 and it’s lasted a little over 2 1/2 years now. I know now after reading several posts that v12's have crapy lasers. If I do replace the laser is my only option to get the same model? Also i am not exactly tech savvy so i am not sure if I can perform this kind of repair.
If anyone knows a reliable site to buy these parts or repair service it would be much appreciated. Thanks

There’s at least a half dozen posts somewhat related to my problem stated above, most of which are 1-2 years old with brief explanations. Almost all of the links are dead due to the age of the posts. Maybe I’m in the wrong forum since this isn't considered modding, but it still involves hardware. Anyone who has had a similar problem or knows of a solution, help or advice would be much appreciated.
