Slow Burn Speeds with a Sony DRU-510A

I have a sony dru510a burner with the latest firmware 1.0c but whenever i select 4x burning although it says its doing it it still takes 30mins for the disc to complete.

I'm using nero 6,

My pc spec is as follows
P4 3.06
512MB 333mhz ram
180gb hdd

Both drives are on their own IDE channel both set to master.

Any ideas

Check my other posts for details, but in short u need the Sony Drive Speed Selector software. Look for it at:

http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/dru510adwn.htm

This will allow you to burn at the drives maximum rates, media allowing.

It is a media problem or rather Sony being arrogant. "cheap" and unsupported "4x" media will burn at 2x.

 

Firmware people, firmware!

Update your firmware and speed should increase. Also, use media that your drive can support, eg, 4x burnner will only write at 1x on 1x media. Use 4x etc.
