Ok. So I've looked at the general responses for slow dvd burning speeds. I have an NEC 3550A. It went fast once. It dropped down pretty badly. I realize that DMA can switch over to PIO and that's usually what causes it; however, I have a situation that I haven't found answered before. First, i tried removing the drivers, etc. I updated the firmware on the NEC drive. There are TWO primary IDE controller drivers. One is "DMA if available" and the cuurrent transfer mode is "Ultra DMA mode 5" and the second is "Ultra DMA mode 2" I don't know what that measns, but there's nothing else i can change. the secondary IDE controller is set to "DMA if available" and the current transfer mode is "Not applicable" The burner runs at 1x. Another question: i have tried a couple of different media. I've already burned 100 cd's of the same type much faster. I'm using Sony CD-R that i got from staples. Listed at 16x/1x. Now i would like to run closer to 16x than 1x.. but what does that rating mean? Further, I ran a simulated drive speed test with Nero and it said 9.1x which sounds about right. I pop a DVD in there and i't 1.0x. Could it possibly be the media? Remember, i used the same exact disc and burned 100 already at much higher speeds. Thanks for any help!
