    Hey Guys,
Need some help, I'm fairly tech-savvy so a bit embarrased to ask this one: My little boy wants to play his PS2 (a Wii with enough games to last till Armageddon and he must play Cart Fury!) Our disk was bad, I used a high-end $500 scratch repair machine, still no love. Went to a game shop where the owner let me spend 15 min sorting through his $2 drawer and I found a copy. I got home and popped it in, same deal. took forever to load but never completed. Then I used a decent head-cleaning disc on the machine, ran the "new" disc through my scratch machine and it loads until the game, but all I hear is the song once the opening screen fades. Does anyone have any suggestions? There is no damage to the top of the disc (where the actual info is stored of course). I removed any fine scratches and still nothing. History, I bought this PS2 years ago and I doubt it has 50 hours of playtime ever, so throw out any "worn-out" parts theory. Yes, it will play other PS2 games we own and all are commercial discs, no ripped/burned discs.
Would cracking the case to do a better job on the laser help? Those brush disc cleaners rarely work in my experience. His mom's away on her first extended business trip so I don't want to let him down. Besides, I refuse to lose to a PS2, I was repairing F-15A Eagle Jet Fighters when I was barely 18!
    Thanks in advance

yeah if the disc is in a "new" condition it could just be dust on the laser although since you aren't having problems with any other games that may not be the case..hmm a bunch of reviews are saying this game has a lot of problems with it. one being the "long loading times" hmm maybe he should pick a different game?

there's plenty of "good" racing games for the ps2 that one is less than mediocre at best. try twisted metal (kinda evil looking racing game), midnightclub (street racing game), freaky flyers ( airplane comedy racing game), gran trismo (track racing game), burn out (kick arse racing game) atv offroad fury (atv racing game), need for speed (fun game), wipeout (hydro racing i think), flat out (cool car damage racing), juiced (street racing), cartoon network racing (racing with cartoon characters).

Thank you. Yes, I read the reviews afterwards...but we're talking 20 min to load all the way. All other games including a blue one play fine. I did notice one thing, the used game I bought today was completely "full" and asked me to overwrite at least one saved profile, I don't know PS2, does that matter? I also have no clue the size of the memory card (more like a box) that's in it. I don't know how to check it's current capacity or how to manipulate the save files in it, I only know Wii and external hard drives, no clue about PS2. I'll absolutely check out the other games you mentioned, Burnout 3 is his fave (and mine), the crashes are awesome. Is there a Wii version or equivalent? I know I should shine on the Cart Fury, but 6 yr old's don't get "I can't fix it", not when he's seen me DL, rip, burn countless games, besides, I hate to lose and now it's purely principal! Maybe I'll try to use a heavier grit on my scratch machine...seems far fetched but..Thank you for everything

that just means your memory card it probably full just turn on the ps2 with no game in it and delete any random saves you aren't going to use later the memory card should show on the ps2s main menu. if you have a ide harddisk and network adapter you can try running it from the hdd after installing freemcboot. it could improve loading times and maybe allow you to play the game. go here to figure out how to install freemcboot(it is mainly used by people to play backup games but I use it to play my legal games backed up to the hdd) disks suck bloody butholes.

Hey Thanks, yeah I think I still use about 4 Wii discs of my own, I keep the rest of my games on a 1 Tera Hard Drive. I looked for a place to DL the PS2 game Cart Fury, even paid sites so I could burn one myself but no love. So now I own the game twice and still can't play it, (and they want to fight "fair use"!) I don't care about it, but you never know what a little kid will like so you just gotta roll with it. I do have an extra external HDD that's 90% empty but I need the 10% on there as it's my PC backup, I could use that I suppose if I make a partition or something, but that's stretching my skills. It's definitely the game as his other games all play fine, I repaired it so now there are no visible scratches, but load time is still 15 min and it won't launch so I'm baffled, how can a game with no scratches not play on a unit thay plays other titles? I'll check out your suggestion, appreciate your valuable time.

sorry I couldn't help ya :( try to see if you can go to a game store and play that game in their ps2 to see if it is just your system or it does the same thing in theirs. if it works in their system I would open up the ps2 and clean out any dust and clean off the laser with q-tip and rubbing alcohol and make sure to dry the laser off gently. heres a youtube video if you need help to taking the ps2 apart and cleaning it.

making a partition is not so hard back up the ten percent to your desktop in a folder called 10% or something. then go to start>computer find your external in there and press format ( to which format you desire), after that left click start>computer (with a left click)> manage> disc management, find you drive and delete volume, check the numbers and split it to how much you require. this wont help your ps2 but just so you know :)

you gotta try the game in something else (someone elses ps2 or a ps2 emulator).

@kannz couldnt help remembering playing twisted metal as a teengaer was a fun game.not a bad lists of games you mentioned there.

AGGHHH!!! You wont believe this, I opened the case to clean the lens and when I fired it back up, DEAD! No power at all. I didnt tug on the ribbon cable but when I opened it back up, I did see I put a crease in it, is a crease enough to ruin it? I thought perhaps a drop of the alcohol dripped over the lens but it would have dried up almost instantly, it is alcohol. That means only the crease or a fuse, please advise, I could kick myself as Im very handy with electronic devices...Thanks

oh no! so its not powering up when you flip the switch and turn it on? does the red light go on at all for the reset switch? so it was only pinched and not ripped somewhere? i brought my ps2 to someone for them to mod it and the guy put a screw through it when putting the screws back in the case and I think that kept it from turning on at all. the reset cables are only a few bucks.
