I have a 16x DVD player, and when I am using the smartripper, The DVD speed indicator is only at 1x. It is taking a long.......l.....o....n...g time for ripping. Is there any way I can tell the smartripper the speed of the DVD?

    Thanks.

its the method of ripping youre using

i used the streaming method the 1st time, which goes faster, but you end up with greatly smaller .vob's on HD

One thing might be that you don't have ASPI layer installed on your computer -- specially if you have NT/2k/XP. This would speed up the ripping process. Other thing is obviously the speed of your HDD -- not optimized for last decade, full of small files, etc..

    Thanks for the reply.

I am running on 98 and have a Duron 900, and I have a reasonably fast hard disk,
and created a 14G partition for the ripping. It is taking about 10 hours for a DVD
of 2:45 hours. Is this common?

    Will the streaming method better?

The ripping (just the SmartRipper part, not the rest of the stuff) takes 10 hours?!

Yes, just the smartripper is taking 10 hours, and the conversion with
DVDAvi is taking about 6 hours.

You have some serious issues with your DVD-ROM drivers. Maybe DMA is turned off, or the actual drive has some physical problems.

I was using the SmartRipper 2.39 version. When I tried with the 2.35 version it is taking around an hour and half or so for a 2.5 hours of DVD time.

When I installed the PowerDVD, it tried to turn on the DMA for the DVD rom, and send could not do it. Should I be turning on the DMA for the DVD-rom through the control panel?

    Thanks.
