    maykuo,

If you had bothered to use our "Search" function you would have found the answer in very short order -

Here it is (this time) -

Next time, at least try using the "search" function -

AFA the Bourne Supremacy, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and one or two others - In "Unreferenced materials" in title 1 menus, there is a "Boy" running (in green shorts too). Sometimes DVD Shrink gets through it sometimes not -

If you are stuck, then go to that Unreferenced section - Go to "Compression" select "Custom Ratio" then select "Still image" then try DVD Shrink again, it should slide right on through, like a hot knife through tender Turkey –

    Cheers,

    Pete

I don't know how large each episode but if not 1 disc, probably 2 :)

You'll love this proggy, I've used it for Wonder Woman, Sex in the City, Sopranos, Shazam, and many more

Enjoy and let me know how you made out -

    He Pete,

I wonder how to burn all rip-out in blank if I don't burn it immediately after ripping DVD by Shrink. For example, the system need to be restarted again when I finished and all data are stored in hd. After the system restart, how do I burn it in the DVD+/-? The only way I can do now is to run the whole procedure again. I just think is there more easy way to do it since I don't want to spend so much time to do ripping.
Also, my friend say his dvd2one version is 102. Is "joint" mode available in the version? I want to borrow it from my friend.. Or some one can provide it for poor student as me to try:)

    maykuo,
    Try reading this -->http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/133768
it's a two step process, and the second step can be done whenever you like.

OK, as I read this, you wish to rip a DVD to your HD and burn it sometime down the road - is that right ?

If that's it use whatever, DVD Shrink, then rip and encode it to your HD then when you're ready to burn take a very basic burning program like Nero's Burning ROM -
    BURNING WITH NERO CLASSIC
    HINT:
First, create a folder for your work on your desktop OR your HD. – Name it something that you'll be able to find. I named mine C:\All My DVD Work\\The Last Samurai sings Swami (off key). Now load your IFO, BUP and VOB files there - make sure they are in a folder named VIDEO_TS written like that (all in Caps) - some programs like DVD Shrink will make the properly named folder for you, others you must make the folder yourself - Nero needs that folder with all it’s contents in order to work properly –

Burning a file made by DVD Shrink.
If you had used DVD Shrink to create a file on your HD you are truly in great shape. When you wish to burn, use the "File Browser" in Nero Classic (don’t use Wizard), trace your path back to “All DVD Work\ \The Last Samurai sings Swami (off key)”, you don’t have to remember where your work is or if you need to do anymore work on it, it is completely finished, ready to go – –

OK then, is everyone comfy ? Good - its now time for - -
“Uncle” ScubaPete’s Step by Step, Let’s burn with Nero 6 Guide -

First - Do not use Nero Wizard -
Please follow along EXACTLY - (might even want to PRINT IT OUT, it'll make following easier, don't ya know ?)

In case you're finding Nero's Burning ROM hard to find (sometimes it really is hiding (Lol). Go to "Start", "All Programs", "Nero", "Nero 6 Ultra Edition" and there you'll find "Nero Burning ROM" :)

When you open Nero Burning ROM, you will be at the “New Compilation” window. Directly under the title “New Compilation” is a choice block to choose either DVD or CD, choose “DVD”. Directly under that click on the “DVD Video Icon.” Then click “New” in the upper right corner of that screen, NOT the main screen.
You now are in the “DVD Video” window. In the left screen, click “VIDEO_TS”. In the “File Browser” screen, 3rd from the left, trace your path to the VIDEO_TS folder, the one you made earlier holding all of your files and click on that folder. All of your VIDEO_TS files are now opened in the right screen. Click on the top file, hold down the “Shift” key and then click the bottom file thereby hi-lighting the entire column of files. Click and (holding the left mouse button down) drag the entire column of files to the open screen, second from the left and release the mouse button.

Now click the icon on the task bar that shows a match on a disc, and then click “OK” and now, clear the room, stand up tall and shout out, “Burn Baby, BURN” ! One more time, let me hear you say it, “Who’s your Daddy Now ???”
Guess what my Friend ? You are done !!!

(Wheeew, now I really need a cigarette)

NOW, STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER ! !
Keep all fingers and toes away from Ms. Computer. Never mess with the lady when she’s working – it would be hazardous to your health, you understand -
Go and have your coffee, when Nero is done, she'll let you know ;-))

    Enjoy your backup,

    Pete

Use the lastest version of dvd shrink

copy the whole dvd not just the moive

If you burn the whole movie is around 4460. But if you want just the moive shrink sees it as 5000-6000 (cant remember the figure) It's the copyright I think.

I'm using a pioneer dvd burner

    I hope this helps

    Dere Pete,

I make it! Thanks for your comprehensive and detailed guide.

    1.about borne supremacy
I make that "boy"( Bill Elliot's priview) as a sting image. And I back up sucessfully. But the menu became silent, which is a pity.

    2.about dvd2one
First of all, I want to combine Everwood season1 Disc4,5 into one (they are 8 hours in total). So, I use Dvd shrink to rip them seperately. And then use DVd2one (version 1.4) to combine them. And it really works out. But the quaily is not very good. And, you must use a lot of time to rip and combine them. And people have to rip two times to make them smaller to fit in one DVD. So, at a rough caculation, it will take at least 24 hours( 3hr ripping*2(times)*2(disks)+5(join mode/combination) to make one combo. So, I was wondering is it really worth to do this. I mean, I am not really lack of blanks. So, if I back up them seperately, it will be more easier and save more time for me.

    3. about burnning

Thanks for your tips. Yes, right now I can use Nero to burn my movies after ripping of DVD Shrink. Here is one question: Why it only take 20 mins to backup a DVD movie but will take more than 1hr 30 mins to burn a data DVD? Here is the equipment I use: Nero 6.6, burner is NEC ND-3500 AG(16X), blank media I use are Fuji and Memorax 8X. But when burnning, it always 4X on the Nero. And I can't understand why it take so long to burn a data DVD. I just put some media files like mpeg or avi files in it. But it really take a long time to burn it. Do you know how to solve this problem?

    maykuo,

Thats not quite right. Once you use the "quality Settings" you don't have to use them a second time so the process is pretty quick.

You really want to think this out. A normal DVD holds approx 120 minutes of video, on some really long films like Braveheart (I don't know how big that one is so the examples may not be correct) or Pearl Harbor (that one is huge) we put like 3 hours (sometimes 3 1/2 hours) on a disc BUT you and I are putting, as you said 8 hours of video on a single disc - Well hey, that is really saying something isn't it ? It would be a lot easier doing it with DL discs where the disc space is 8.5GB instead of 4.36GB as I have my settings.

Does it take time, in a word, YEP ! But you've broken all kinds of rules. The quality is that of a VHS first generation recording from the TV and that is saying something. You can put better than 6 hours (close to 7 hours) on a single-sided DVD and the quality is that of a commerical VHS tape.

(Coffee and cigarette break, Wheeeew, )

For all the Newbies out there reading this post, calm down and get a grip - he's talking about the burning time all by itself not the encoding -that still takes a good bit of time :)

As these type of files aren't ready they have to be rendered (changed from one format to another whereas the DVD Video files don't have to be rendered, just "assembled" (encoded), and burned to disc.

In a word, NOPE ! Not if you want them to work an AVI file has to be rendered to a DVD compatible MPEG2, then from that to a VOB (not really 2 steps BUT it would take that using TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc DVD Re-aurthor) if you were going to do it right. No real fantastic shortcuts. Some can be shorter but not when you're dealing with AVI and MPEG at the same time. The straight burning of files will always be faster than renderig.

Here it is - if you want it, it will take time BUT it can be done and with quality better than what most would expect :)

    Cheers and Happy Holidays -

    Pete

    Dear Pete,

I don't quite understand this point. This is the word you wrote beofre for [bold]DVD2One(fourms.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/12872):Now, using custom compress, compress them to the max, run them X2( is this mean repeat the whole procedure two times?), then to a file on your HD.[/bold]

So...what is the SOP to deal with the long hours movies?
Ok,let me ask this way? How do I back up "Gone with the wind"(233mins in two dish) in one disk?

Here is the simulation I think after reading ur guide:
1.rip both side by DVD shirnk in different folder
    2. use DVD2one "joint mode" to comebine two files into one by non-seameless mode

3.rip the "combinaton" by compress mode, the second time of DVD shirnk, to make it smaller than 4.3G. And then burn it?

    Is it right?

Just heard my friends said that he used "Roxeo" can burn any data disc in about 20 mins? Not sure if it is correct name of the program. Anyway, what I want to do is just clean my hard disk and burn all data(including meida, program files...) into DVD to release more room for my HD. Is this really so hard to do this?

    Cheers,

    May

OK. I have tried to back two sides(A/B) "Gone with wind".
It take about 45 mins for each side for ripping.
And about 160 mins to assembl them...
Here is the pics of my steps:(if the pix don't display, try right click/view pictures)

    May,

Here's the thing, when your files require compression, then you can use the Deep Analysis and the QE's. When your files are below 4.36GB those settings are "Grayed out".

If each disc is 6 + or 7 + GB then you want to Rip and run the first disc through DVD Shrink X2 then place it in a folder. Then do the same thing with the second disc.Use DVD2One in the Join, Seamless mode so there won't be any gaps between the 2 discs. Try that and you should be fine.

If each disc is around 4.7GB (almost 100%) then combine them together using DVD2One, then run them through DVD Shrink using the Deep Analysis and the QE's. If needed, run them through 2X

I've always done mine the first way because the sizes have always been large.

Give it a try using a RW disc. When you have it where you want then there will be little to do to finish them because they will have been processed and already in folders twice so you won't be starting from scratch -

Let me know how you do-

    Pete

    Dear Pete,

Sorry! Don't quite understand these words:

1.Deep Analysis ? you mean the re-author function?
    2. the QE's. ??
3.DVD Shrink X2 ? mean run dvd shrink two times?

For the many members who appear to having problems with the Bourne Supremacy - here are a few tips.

    1. Do not install Interactual DVD Player - it is a bitch of a program in the same category as the Roxio whore.

    2. If you have Interactual DVD Player on your computer - go to Control Panel - Add/Remove programs and unistall.

    3. Use DVD Shrink to open program - analyse - go to re-author mode.

    4. Go to Compression settings tab - remove all sub-picture and audio substreams other than English (unless of course you need another language).

    5. Backup DVD.

Just backed up movie tonight - no errors and no funny green men running across the screem.

On a PIII 800 with 256Mb RAM, it took 28min37sec to rip/encode and 14min40sec to burn.

    Have fun.

    Hey Colw,

You'd think they'd get it by now. You can lead the horse to water but you can't make it drink! I used DVD Shrink to back-up Bourne Surpemacy. I also used XCOPY XPRESS with DVD43. Neither of them gave me any problems. You're right about the Interactual Player. All should listen to sound advice!

    Dimension 4600 P4 2.66G 512mbDDR nec2100 dvd +/-rw 4x
    Happy posting!

Forgot to mention, I used AnyDVD with DVDShrink. Remember it only cost if you keep it past the 21day trial period! DVD43 cost as well, but I have the pre-cost version and it hasn't failed me. Also if anyone's having problems backing up the StarWars Trilogy, Road to Perdition and Fried Green Tomatoes, AnyDVD with CloneDVD was the solution for me.

    Just a slight correction -

The original DVD43 is and always will be FREE.

    http://dvd43.com/

Some OTHER pple came along and "Stole" the proggy, and the name, added a few "extras" and started charging $$$$. Here is the Money version (not all that good) - trial for 30-days, then $$$$.

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd43.cfm

    Two different proggys.

If you ever thought about a "Driver type" decrepter then the best of that type on the "Net" is AnyDVD which is constantly updated and can "Break" more encryption types. Yes, without a doubt, the best of it's type, AnyDVD !
    Season's Greetings,

    Pete
