I am ready to flash my Lite on (DG-16D2S) (Firmware 93450c) and need help understanding how to use the probe on the drive. I have made my own probe following this guide

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/767988

Everything went good when making it. Now I am reading the jungleflasher tutorial and have a few questions. What are they refering to when the say 3.3v inline switch? Is this just the power to the probe that I have got from a molex connector in my computer?
This is the step that is confusing.

I don't understand why I would have to switch off power to the probe before the point is probed.

    any help would be great.

I don't have a button on mine. I made mine from scratch. I'm sure I can add a switch somewhere in the line if needed.

all the button does is cut the power.so you probably just turn the power on your probe off ..probe then turn back on while the probe is on mpx01.i use probe 3 real easy

So basiclly power to the probe needs to be off before touching the point on the board, and while it is touching it turn it back on?

Also I've read somewhere that the point is a hole it goes in but mine just looks like a big glob of solder? Do I have to get through it into the drive?

no its just a round solder point ..not a hole .if u follow the instructions jungle flasher gives as u go its will easy.if u made your own probe then u should have no problem flashing ..

God I would have thought the same thing. I followed the tutorial exactly as stated to make the probe and when I was done I tested the voltage at the probe end and had -2.5 volts. I would have to assume that is not correct. 1 end of it plugs into a 9 pin serial port on the back of the pc. Maybe that had something to do with it. I getting extremely frustrated with the entire thing. I wish I could have someone just get the dvd key for me. Once I have the key there is no need to probe ever again correct?

You seem to be confused about what you're powering off when that message pops up. It's talking about the DVD drive itself, not the probe. Power off the drive, probe MPX01, turn the power to the drive back on. That's why things like the Maximus Lizard kit comes with a power cable for the DVD drive that has a switch on it, so that it makes it easy to just flick the switch to power cycle the DVD drive, rather than having to pull the power cable out and push it back in (kinda awkward when you're holding the probe at the same time).

And yes, once the key is dumped then in future to flash the drive you just erase it, then write the new firmware. You don't have to use the probe on that drive again unless you lose your backup firmware and need to re-grab the key.

So the probe never needs to be switched off? It just confusing because jungleflasher says to hold down a button on the probe for 3 seconds and I made my probe so I defently don't have any button on it.

So if I understand correctly, Once the drive is recognized in jungleflasher I need to hit the phat xbox button, then it pops up with its message, then I turn off the drive, place the probe on the solder point, then turn the drive back on?

The drive doesn't ever have to be half way out anymore right?

    Nope.

Have you read the JungleFlasher guide? Everything is in there, step by step. Check the pinned link at the very top of this forum section for a link to it if you don't have it.

Ya I've got it and read it about 400 times. Just not super confident in doing it.

Sounds like I'm good to go as soon as I figure out what is wrong with the probe I made. I've tested it and it seems good. Might be a driver issue with the 9 pin connector on the back of the pc.

Got 1 more quick question. When the pop up alert comes up in jungleflasher telling me to power off the drive, probe, then power back on, do I click yes on the screen before or after I power off, probe, and power back on?

ok I got the probe to work on step one. After I probe it says extraction complete. to continue remove probe, turn off drive wait 5 seconds the power back on and push ok. Every time I do this it comes back failed. By turning off drive I have tried just turning the console off, and tried unplugging the drive and plugging it back in. What am I doing wrong?

Now my probe hardly ever works. Now I'll power off drive, probe, and when the drive powers back up it ejects. Any ideas.
