SRT subs - any way to correct alignment?

A couple of weeks ago, I bought a noname (NASH) DivX/DVD standalone player. It plays almost everything I throw at it reasonably well, except for one problem - SRT subs are not aligned to the center of the screen and are off by 25-30%, making the feature nearly useless.

Since there is no way to correct this in the player, does SRT have the option for sub alignment? Some file headers that force the subs to be displayed in a preset position is something I was thinking of.

An alternative would be to hardcode the subs into the video files themselves, but I'm concerned about the reencoding of video and the quality loss because of that.

srt is a very basic format and has not positioning information. Even if it did it would be upto the player to respect it or not.
