standalone dvd player questoin

    when you convert a avi file into a dvd, and put it
    in a standalone player does it need to be able to read
    dvd-r or whatever disc you burned it on?

    Yes the player has to be able to read the type of disk.
    If you are not sure what type your player uses, plug the model in here:

    Also you generally convert the AVI to suit your region inasmuch as you would select PAL for Europe or NTSC for North america.
