Hey I'm a real newbie, I just got a system from a buddy, no mod chip.. nothing.

I just want to get the system back to all its defaults and maybe format the hard drive. I know lots about computers and nothing about the xbox.

Any recomondations to help get me started would be great.

    Thanks
    Shoei

Is the Xbox broken or are you going to Mod it?

Well there is an issue, it dosn't strat up some times. It sounds like the hard drive isn't booting. My buddy contacted MS and they said it may have a virus. That's why I thought if I could format the hard drive it would be better. Then once I get it working properly agian then I'll start looking into moding it.

As long as the HDD is just corrupted and not having component problems then formatting it will probably work but the only way you are going to Format the HDD is to Mod the Xbox in one form or another.

Can you not pull the Hard Drive out and Format in your computer?

NOOOOO man, xbox's can't get viruses. Your hard drive might be crapping out on you. I would say just ge ta chip and a new hard drive and then you have a good machine.

LMAO, how could M$ say there is a virus! you cant format the drive through your PC back to factory settings unless it was already modded at some point, unless you had a backed hdd already on you pc. If I were you I would just mod the thing
