Are you using a null modem cable in conjunction with the USB adapter?

No you need it with the standby light on. Your lead may look the same but may still not be a null modem cable.

To see which port your USB adapter is connected to, connect your USB adapter and follow the following instructions:

    1. Go to the Start Menu
    2. Right click on "My Computer"
    3. Select "Properties"
    4. Click on the "Hardware" tab
    5. Click on "Device Manager"
    6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
    7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your USB adapter is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.)
    8. Go back to gtromloader and make sure it is looking at the correct port.
    9. You should be able to transfer data once the correct port is selected

If you need drivers go here

scouser still no joy.Bought the maplin cable and a maplin usb to serial.have both connected.Looked at the device manager at it says USB to com adapter in port 6. Open the GT loader it shows me only to port 4. I try all 4 first 3 no port recognoised.Port 4 it tries to download stays on zero forever never moves. WHat u think? Thanks

In device manager, under Ports (COM & LPT), double click the one assigned to COM 6. In the property page, click the Port Settings tab. Click Advanced. Change the COM Port Number to the one you want and click OK.

Make sure you assign to an unused port between 1 and 4.
