    Dear Friends,

I have starview-2 Thebox, I am Ireland based in west midlands.
    API ver 2.57e_E
    Boot ver: 7.0

    I have tried to download GTRom_V4.00 & thebox_Ireland_H20070705_450eE_api using RS232 (female/female 9pin) connection to COM1.

I keep on getting the Flash failed and will not down load at all.
    Thebox-2 is Genuine.
I tried and tried and will not download. There is on load progress
    indication at all.
I have read the Documentatiton on how to. There is options avaliable to continue beyond the Flash Failed ... other than Retry (does nothing) or Cancel.

Will anyone be able to help me PLEASE.

    Happy Christmas to ALL

    GOV99.

I have gone through the message in the original thread.
The box is a Starview 2. I live in ireland so I downloaded the Ireland version. I have looked into the link below provided
'TheBox' folder for firmware read 'Documentation' how to:

    http://eko.4shared.com/

Alas : I get the same result 'The flash update failed'

I am not sure what else I can do. I Checked COM1, Baud 115200
GCR3510 .. etc and all looks ok. Is anyone else having the same problem out there? Many thanks

Dont want to sound silly, but is your RS232 cable in all the way into the box and your PC? Are you using a laptop or a PC?

I did re-check RS232 on a Desktop and also the Thebox to make sure it was in correct position. The nuts are tight on the rs232 on both ends.

I also installed COM1 port, and rebooted the system for the XP to pick it up. The device manager shows the COM1 port bps 115200.

In desperation I troubled shooted the COM1 only to find it was working.

This baffles me. It makes no logical sense. You may still be right to think the rs232 cable ? I will have to find a way to test it. My PC does not have RS232.

I know it is something very simple .. but what ???

    Hi
Have you used the lead before to tranfer data? and are you useing a USB to 9 pin converter? If so try it on a PC that has a 9 pin comport using a null modem cable direct without the usb converter as I have read several post about people having connection problems when using usb converters. If not using a USB converter make sure you are using a null modem cable, as there is also a serial cable same in looks. Important connections end to end to check are pin 2 to pin 3, pin 3 to pin 2, pin 5 to pin 5. These can be checked with a meter or bulb & battery.

The Rs232 cable is a new cable just purchased the other day. It is null modem cable.
It has 9 pins (4 in one row and 5 in the other). Female to Female connection on both ends which connects directly to Thebox and COM1 On the Desktop.
I am not using USB convertor.

The rs232 is (from NIKKAI) says Serial Lead (RS232)

Thanks for the suggestion .. I will have to purchase meter to check the pins as suggested.
At this point the analysis suggested to be a cable problem.

One thing I could do is to replace the cable I purchased from Maplin and see if I get the same thing. It is driving me crazy.

    Hi
If it says 'serial cable' I would suspect it as being straight wired (pin to pin) as against Null modems crossed pins. I've seen in a post somewhere quoting that if you go to a store and ask for a Null modem cable and they ask you what its for or don't know what you mean, go somewhere else. The only way to check yours to be sure is with a meter. But Maplins should know the differences, quiz them about it.

Thank you very much. It was the serial cable.

I exchanged the cable and the down load to flash worked.

    Have a happy Christmas.
