Hi. I've also had trouble ripping this disk. DVDShrink 3.1 and 3.2 have an error reading it with DVD43 running. Also Rip4Me and DVDFab Decrypter both don't even see the DVD it seems.
Any ideas on how to rip this that doesn't involve buying someone's software?
    Thank you

Get the latest RIP IT 4 Me!!!!

Then let Ripit4me create a PCL file and have DVD Decrypter extract the files. DVD Decrypter will notify you of some Encoding. Not to worry. it will have no problem. Once you have the files, you can then Shrink them if necessary using DVD Shrink. Or simply burn your DVD.

The key here is to get the newest version of Ripit4me!

    Same here.
Make sure you have it create the PCL file. I actually had to run it a couple times for it to finally work, but it DID work. I watched the backup copy last night to make sure.
This is definitely Sony's latest attempts to block backing up your DVD's...or illegal copying I suppose.

    Hi,

I had a problem that sounds the same. I would open Ripit4me, insert the dvd and it would go along fine until it started freezing during the extracting sectors process using the DVD Decrypter. Si I went to this page:

    http://www.ripit4me.org/faq.html

    and found this:

"Some drives (e.g. LG) will slow down after reading a bad sector and not recover to normal ripping speed. This can be frustrating.
If you experience this, open DVD Decrypter, and click Tools → Settings. On the General tab, place a check mark in "Cycle Tray After Bad Sectors". Click OK. Now, when a bad sector is encountered, the drive will open and close. It will re-initialise and once you are through with the bad sectors, it will resume ripping at normal speed."

In my case DVD Decrypter was so slow when it encountered the bad sectors that I actually thought it had hanged. But after I clicked "Cycle Tray", it worked, even though it took about 15 minutes of opening and closing the tray about 10 times. It finally resumed and ripped the whole movie and it was fine after that.

    Hope this helps.

    I had no problems at all.Used DVDfab decrypter(Free version).Ripped to hard drive,Used DVDshrink,and burned with Nero.Worked like a charm.

Try downloading the latest DVDfab Decrypter 3.0.8.0
    Or the Beta version 3.0.8.5

I had the same problem with my Sony DRU 710A, it didn't see the disc. My other drive, some unidentified generic DVD drive that came with my Dell, recognized the disc just fine.

I try to point RI4M to decrypter in the setting and it says "This doesnt seem to be DVD Decrypter"

On another note. Tenacious D and the pic of destiny ripped with DFab cleaned with FixVTS and burnt with Shrink3.2 perfectly.

Uninstall ripit4me and FixVTS and reinstall both with the INSTALLER form ripit4me download page. It installs them together. if still doesn't recognize Decrypter reinstall it.

If you have trouble getting RI4U to see the disk you inserted and you have anydvd try this. Open anydvd and insert the disk, it should read, then open RI4U, close anydvd and run as normal. Hope this helps someone

I finally make a good copy of Stranger than Fiction, I tried 3 times with DVDFab 3.0.8.0 and Fab would go thru it and then when I tried to load VobBlanker I got the following error message Error: MaxVTS Limit (99) has been reached and Vob wouldn't go any farther. Another thing when I tried to get the file for Vob I had 3 folders , 1st was “Fulldisc” & opening that one & I got the next one titled “Stranger Than Fiction,” open that one & I get the normal Audio & Video_ts & it shows 7.24GB like it should, when I tried to open that one with Vob I got the error message, looking at the properties of the Video_ts it was showed 90.0 mb IFO file whatever that is. I have never seen this before and usually when you click on the Video TS file it opens in Vob & show 7.24Gb or close and you can go about your business?

So after 3 tries with Fab & getting this error from Vob I tried to open DVD Shrink to see if it would work, now shrink had refused to even see the disk in the DVD tray before but DVDShrink opened the file and was able to get it to run thru shrink & DVD Decrypter & I was able to copy it this way. Now I did download the free trial of AnyDVD and when I open Fab it says "Any DVD is detected. You need to disable AnyDVD to make DVDFab work correctly", Fab doesn’t seem to like it running at the same time. I didn't disable it and it seemed to work OK. So now I’m not sure if AnyDVD was the reason that Shrink was able to work Ok or not. Trying to use DVDShrink with AnyDVD running DID NOT work in the first place, it was only after using using DVDFab did I get DVDShrink to work. Now this has probably only taken me 2 to 3 hrs to get the job done Any thoughts?
