This came up because I was fed up with the time it takes to upload a video to my Tivo and/or forget to burn DVDs of my AVIs until about 10 seconds before I want to watch them.

Is there a good quality way to stream video to a Wii?

I had a look at the Red Kana "Wii Media Center" which, with Opera 9 works somewhat okay for most things, but you have to convert videos to FLV format @ 512kbs and it doesn't play full screen inside Opera (and there is macro blocking etc. etc.).

I gather the Wii can do MP4, but what other formats? Is there a way to get it on there without Opera (which will limit the screen size with its bizzare safe areas!) or am I just SOL?

if you have an SD card, you can put the files on there, and open them in the Photo Channel. You can download a program called Wii Video 9, and it will convert any video file, to the Wii format.
