I have mpeg2 files which i use for dvd movies. I would like to know if there is an easy way of putting in a selectable subtitle (ie. one that i could turn on/off) when the dvd plays in a stand-alone player. i.e get mpeg2 file or vob file and combine with the subtitle file.

As far as i can see, the easiest way for me to get a subtitle on to a film is to re-encode the film and include the subtitle. This will however leave a permanant subtitle. If i originally endcoded a file at 2000 kb/sec say, and then to get the subtitle on to the film permanently i would then have to re-encode using tmpgenc....... if i were to re-encode at the same bitrate, 2000 kb/sec say, would this lower the quality of the video? (presuming it was originally quite good quality)

Any help in any of these matters would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks
