    folks

is it possible to take apart one of these lacie external hdd easily - i.e. if the power supply packs up, is the hard drive inside useable as an internal one?
    - looks like a knife job at first glance...

    any thoughts most welcome
    cheers

I'd expect so, assuming it isn't a dual disk job,in which case they'll probably be using a RAID controller (if that is the case, I'd replace the PSU rather than take them out)

ok cheers - also curious as to what hardware they use - i.e. seagate or maxtor or whatever...
i mean, are you paying for a shiny fake aluminium case, when all you need is external caddy + hdd...

If I remember correctly they're IBM Hitachi Deskstars.
