The HD4890 (if that's what it gets called) is due in approximately 6 weeks according to rumours. The HD4870X2 came out about a month after the HD4870. If AMD are able to follow suit with a 4890X2, you might be wise to wait for that.

6 weeks worldwide or 6 weeks US/UK? Because Australia always seems to be behind the times... :( any idea if these "rumours" are true?

    Sam,
What would have been annoying with the old Freezer 64, is a non-issue with the Freezer 64 Pro. The new fan blade design is so much quieter, even at max rpms. Most of my temperature changes come when the sun hits the front of the house. I need to put some of that heat reflecting film on the front window, as you can feel the heat as soon as the sun starts shining through the window, and with the computer sitting right there, in the middle of it all, the heat coming through the window affects the temps!

I haven't a clue as to why Everest is increasing the CPU usage in one core on yours. What version are you using? I just looked at mine and it's still 1% or less after hours of use. It's funny, Everest 4.60 1.9.5.7 reads perfect on Oman7's DS4H, but doesn't yet fully support my UD4H, which is why some of my temps and voltages are in the wrong place, yet they read correctly on his! Strange!

    Best Regards,
    Russ

    5.00.1655.

It stands to reason, a 1600rpm 92mm fan should be quiet, and generally even the old Freezer 64 was relatively good at that speed. The problem came when I wanted to be able to use speedfan so had to disable, at the time, Asus' naff QFan, which meant 100% until I got into windows. That was managable at 2400rpm, but when max speed rose to 2700, it was painful.

    Sam,
Try a Silverstone FM83 80mm Case Fan at max 3600 RPM. That'll put a wrinkle in your eardrums! LOL!! The noise would be intolerable! Thank God for the controller, and the fact that I only need 1450 RPM to cool the best!

    Hello,

I got a question for you guys...
    Which CPU cooler is better?

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...5150095&cm_re=masscool-_-35-150-095-_-Product

OR the stock cooler from a Q6700?

I have that cooler in the link in my P4 box right now and I got a new E6300 Pentium Dual Core 2.8GHz Wolfdale to replace it. Now my question is, which cooler should I use on the Wolfdale? The Wolfdale overclocks to 4.00GHz with the Q6700 stock cooler...will I get a better overclock with that huge Mass Cool CPU cooler? I already have it (got it FAR) but if it isn't gonna help anything, then I don't wanna go through the effort of installing it. I know...I am lazy.

The Masscool is better, even though it isn't worth half the $40 asking price.

So you think I will get a better overclock with it?
Btw, it was FAR as I stated in my previous post.

    im1992,
Why would you want to OC past 4.0 anyway. If you were to gain .2GHz, the difference in performance between 4.0 and 4.2 is minimal. AS Sophocles said, you reach a point of diminishing returns at the higher end of any overclock. CPU errors start coming into play. The CPU will correct errors, but not all of them can be corrected with a very high overclock. We've seen a number of people on AD that started out at 4.1-4.2GHz, and sooner or later they've had to lower it to 3.9GHz or so. I know it can give problems with DVDRB/CCE and Folding. You can stress test it for hours with no problems, but certain programs just won't work properly. Rebuilder will just stop working in the middle of an encode, and Folding won't complete the Work Units that are caused by CPU errors.

I was just talking to Will, and his Q9550 is running at 3.93GHz. My Amd 630 quad is running at 3.510GHz. His 2 pass encodes are a couple of minutes faster than mine. My CPU is $137 cheaper, and I don't think the price difference is worth the extra couple of minutes I'd gain. I don't do much gaming so I can't justify the price difference!

    Happy Holidays,
    Russ

    Okay, I won't overclock higher.

That's actually because the first pass of video encodes using certain codecs are considerably in AMD's favour. It doesn't necessarily reflect that Will's CPU is being slowed by CPU errors. However, I wouldn't discount the possibility given the incredibly low voltage he's used to get to that speed.

I am thinking of going ATI instead of Nvidia.
Now I know that EVGA and BFG provide lifetime warranties on Nvidia chips. Which company is similar for ATI/AMD?
