    Hi all,

    Newbie here :D

Ok problem i have is i just bought a Starview box from ebay last week and came across this by accident..http://www.irelandeurovox.com/starview.htm

Now i am concerned as the Starview box in the pic that says 'copy' is the one i have :S

Oddly enough though the remote i have is a real one as is the box it all came in is the real one as well. The manual i have looks fake as well though.

Basically my question is, should i be bothered because the one i have works very well and have had no problems so far or should i email the seller and demand a refund and get something else?

    Thanks in advance,

    John.

Its up to you what you would like to do reagrding emailing the seller

If you have the correct firmware on it it wont cause you any problems

I know people with clones and they have them about 9 months and still going strong

If you are sure its a clone well take 4.00 off it immedially as it will die with the firmware on it

You need the 2.57_FIXED firmware on it and this auto rolls the codes for you

You will need a NULL MODEM CABLE to update the b0x

    Thanks for the reply.

I ordered a cable from ebay the other day so should get it next few days.

Where would i get this new firmware from and would it maybe just easier to email this seller on ebay and send it back and get the new starview or maybe something else?

2.57_FIXED for clones is the latest firmware

You will also need to download the software GT ROM LOADER

Both of these can be found in the link at the bottom of my post (Eamo's Library)

If your PC or Laptop does not have a 9 pin port you will need a USB Adapter
    USB Adapter info here

    http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx...t10&doy=search&MenuName=USB to Serial Adaptor

It is very easy to do

    Updating Firmware

Connect your box and PC with a Null modem cable and switch on the cable box and put it on STANDBY.
(The Starview does not need to be connected to TV to update it with GTROM)

Open GTROM Loader software make sure that you set the correct COM PORT
that matches the one that is being used

Make sure App file only is selected, then click Bin File & browse to the firmware where you downloaded
    it to on your PC.

Run the GTROM loader by pressing Download and you will see the % progress increase
then Download completed message on your PC.
Wait until you see the DOWNLOAD COMPLETE pop up on your PC before
removing the NULL MODEM CABLE. The Starview will then reboot

Turn off and turn back on , then plug your tv cable and scart back in

    Hi,

    Cheers for that.

I emailed the seller of my box anyway and he claims is isnt a clone yet when i showed him pics of it he then said he will replace it as a gesture of good will lol

Wonder if i will get a real one now hehe

If i get another clone then i cant be bothered to muck about anymore and will just do as you advised.

    Thanks.

Tell us who the seller was so we can add him to the name & shame list.

Well i got the Null modem cable today and have just flashed the box with the proper firmware and all is good. Im still unsure as to whether i should send the box back or not.

guy has said he will replace it but i think i will just get another clone.

While im here, does anyone know where i can get the latest channel dump for Ex TW Dundee?

    Cheers.
