Hello All and thanks in advanced for any advice given

    Problem:
I have an .avi file that I want to encode to mpg2 using Tmpeg. When I try to open the file it says it is invalid or unsuported.

The file plays fine in BS player and VLC player. I have Direct Show as a 2 pritority and at the top of the list in the enviromental settings in Tmpeg

Here is a Gspot screen shot of the file:

This guy over at Videohelp suggested this:
It's got VBR audio that TMPGEnc chokes on. You can save out the audio as a WAV in VirtualDub Mod with full processing and either add it back in or encode it to AC3 with a program like ffmpeggui. Then add that back with the encoded video when you author it. Directions here for VDM: http://forum.videohelp.com/topic280779.html

So I used VDM and made the WAV file. But now what? Tmpeg still will not load the orginal avi. Did i miss a step? It seems I have to replace the audio on the avi with the newly created WAV audio. How do I do that? or should I

You are using an app that requires a bit of video knowledge to use successfully. There are quite few steps that need to be taken. With Xvid downloads your best bet would be to use ConvertXtoDVD on your file. It should handle it in one step, file to disc, with decent quality.

You could also try this free app.
