    A couple of things may cause this. Go to options>environmental setting>VFAPI Plugin and raise the priority of Directshow Multimedia File Reader to 2 by right clicking on it. If you are still having problems, you can create a wav and use that as your audio source: http://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubaudio.htm Goldwave can also create a wav but isn't free.

    I got around this by installing 'ffdshow'.
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

    After it installs goto 'START'>ALL PROGRAMS>ffdshow>Configuration and look at the codecs that it has turned on.
    You might want to turn them all all off then on one at a time until you get sound.
    That way you can just turn on what you need or uninstall the whole package.

    Take care , if that AVI has AC3 instead of MP3 sound, TMPGenc Plus 2.5 won't be able to use it.
    You could try if Fcchandler's AC3ACM codec works http://fcchandler.home.comcast.net/AC3ACM/

    If it doesn't work, simply apply this procedure:
    1) demux the AC3 stream with VirtualDubMod (command: Stream ---> Stream List ---> Demux)
    2) choose DVD [PAL] project Wizard, so TMPGenc will produce an output type: "System (audio+video)" --> ES (video +audio) so that movie.avi --> movie.[m2v+wav] and movie.wav will be all silence (since AC3 cannot be read by TMPGenc 2.5)
    3) author (use IFOEDit " DVD ---> Author a New DVD", for example) M2V + AC3 ---> DVD stuff

    This is the DVD creation procedure I use normally...I never create a MPG. I create a M2V and an audio stream (AC3 or MP2), before. Later, I'll author it in a DVD set (video_ts.BUP, video_ts.IFO, vts_01_0.BUP, vts_01_0.IFO,VTS_01_#.VOB)
