TMPGENC expands AVI when converting to MPEG

I am using TMPGenc 3 and/or plus to convert a series of avis to mpgs so that I can burn a tv series to dvd. I did the first few and got a file size of ~1.2gB from an avi of about 355 mB which I thought was reasonable. Now when I try to do the others or reencode one I have previously done, I get a file size of about 3gB. This is with sound, without sound, setting start and end frame and matching the params of the ones that were of the "correct" size. Strangely, every once in a while, TMPGenc will give me the 1.2-1.5 gB size. I have run out of ideas on what to try. Been through the common problem FAQ a number of times, no joy.

Need some fresh mind to consider this problem, Thanks.

Dunno bigdog, that's a weird one.
You should post this in VCD/SVCD - that is where all the TMPGenc experts like Mick69 will notice it.
    Good luck
