I need a little help. I've been using TMPGEnc to try and convert a Xvid avi to dvd since the program that came with my dvd burner won't accept xvid, or avi, i can't remember which one. Anyhoo, I've managed to convert pretty well, using a guide, the video quality is perfect, but there's no audio! I used avicodec to see what was going on, and all it showed was that the audio file is a LAME mp3... Can someone give me some suggestions? I have 22 files to convert and I've spent days trying to make it work!! I also tried using Xilisoft Video converter, which worked pretty well, yet since it's a trial, it'll only do 5 mins worth. Anyone know if there's a way i can get around that without buying it? - Lyss
First, doing a DVD from an AVI is a loss of time (the AVI has already compressed to a low-middle quality. VCD is more then enough. Try http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/110106 . If you really wand to make a DVD, instead you must read some of the guides contained in http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/110106, expecially http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd.cfm (DivX/Xvid AVI to DVD). Concluding: there are lot of guides for this. Read them. In general all the guides say: [bold] DO NOT DIRECTLY MAKE AVI --> DVD. FIRST, ENCODE THE MOVIE. SECOND, MAKE THE DVD IMAGE (AUTHOR THE DVD). THIRD, AND ONLY AFTER STEPS 1) AND 2) HAVE BEEN COMPLETED, BURN IT.[/bold] Obviously, you need the Xvid codec instelled, to DECode the input AVI. Maybe other work, but I prefere the originals (and the DECoder pert of any codec , even DivX, is free!)
