I have a Lite on dvdrw shw 1635S
    Just recently it stopped working.
I have tried everything I can think of when it comes to the software part. Meaning, I have un-installed and re-installed the drivers.
I tried downloading and updating the firmware but I get an error stating that no matching drive detected! And that it is intended for the Lite On model I have installed. Weird that it doesn't see that DVD drive that Windows says is installed and working properly.
Also, when I try and burn a dvd using either Shrink or Nero, the burn process goes all the way to the very part where it prompts me for a blank disc, I put one in the tray and then it doesn't see it; it just keeps on looking. So, what do you think could be the problem? Is my drive shot? Oh, I also tried doing a Roxio Zapp, which seemed to have operated fine, but didn't fix the problem.
    thanks ,
    frustrated

Ok, so I went and bought an LG dvd-rw and it installed fine.
However, it did NOT solve my problem.
None of my burning software recognize my burner.
I am starting to think that it is a software setting or something.
    Could it be a virus?
    any help is appreciated Please

    Start from the beginning.

Does the BIOS recognize your burner? Sounds like YES

Does the OS recognize your burner. Sounds like YES.

"None of my burning software recognize my burner."

Did the drive come with any burning software? Did you try that?

yes, at first Windows wanted to install a generic driver but I
used the disc that came with the burner.
I saw no errors when installing the driver from disc.
There was even a program on the driver disc called cyberlink producer and it didn't see the new burner.
    what do you think?

You shouldn't need to install a driver for the DVD.

    What OS are you using?

cyberlink producer is not a driver. It is a movie maker application.

Sorry, I was just saying that even the software that came with
    the burner is not working.
I am using Windows XP SP3
Oh, I also got the warning from iTunes that the registry settings for the burning part of their software was missing and suggested I re-install iTunes. After I did, I got the same warning.
