Hello. I'm new to the forum, but I have a quick question. When burning anything (copy cd, burn image, or burn a file), it gets to 5% and then I get a Track Following error and the burn process fails. I have used two separate DVD-burners and installed Nero 7 from two different sources and the problem subsists. I have checked the DMA settings as well as the ASPI settings, and both check out alright. If anyone has an idea of what could be the problem, I would greatly appreciate the input. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers.

    Hi ravensice
Post your last Nero log and let's take a peek.
You can find them here for XP:
    program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory

    Here for Vista:
    Desktop/Your Comp Name/App Data/Roaming/Ahead/Nero History

Just need the last one. Be sure to edit out the serial # too - they begin w/ 1A, 1C or 5C.

    Here's a couple of suggestions:

    Recorder: DVD-RAM GSA-H55N>Version: 1.00
Update the firmware - the latest for this drive is 1.02

    Nero Version: 7.0.0.0
Update Nero too - you're using the original version of 7 - there are quite a few fixes and enhancements since the original version.
    The latest is 7.10.1.0

I updated the firmware to 1.02 and installed Nero 7.10.1.0 and the problem still remains. Can you think of something else that might cause this problem?

    Cheers.

Hmmm anything change pc wise since this started happening?
How about dvd's - are you able to burn them?

Try uninstalling the dvd burner in device manager (I only see 1 dvd burner in the log).
Right click on my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager.
Click the + next to dvd/cd drives. Right click on the burner and pick uninstall. Reboot and let windows do it's thing and reinstall.

Have you also tried using a different brand cd's?

So it turns out that I'm able to burn DVD's with no problem whatsoever. However, when I try to burn CD's, I run into problems. What could be the cause of this? Any input is appreciated.

    Cheers.

Could be the media - which are you using?

Post the last failed burned cd log and let's see if we can anything else.

Thanks for your help. After all that, it turned out to be the media that was the problem. I switched from "Maxell" to "Sony" and the problems went away. I do however have one last question. Where can I find high quality cd-r's for a decent price. Thanks again.

    Cheers.

Not a problem - glad it to hear the media switch did the trick.

I use Maxell cd's - the made in Japan only. Check and see if yours were made in Japan. These are made by Taiyo Yuden - grade A stuff.

Where are you located? You can get genuine Taiyo Yuden online at reputable online stores.

Do you always burn at MAX speed?

I never burn anything without selecting one speed step down,
and don't see data errors (Nero CD-DVD speed/scan test)on any
    inexpensive media, CD or DVD.
The LG has always been dependable, which is more than you
can say for Nero, with its monthly updates.

I burn everything on the lowest level possible. Besides which, I check the box for "Determine maximum speed" on every burn that I do. Hope that helps.

    Cheers.

Your statement is a contradiction in itself, you say you burn at a slow speed and then check the box for MAXIMUM speed.

'Determine Maximum Speed' doesn't mean you are burning at max speed.
Checking this box Nero will calculate the supported burn speeds of the drive for the media you are using.
You can then set the burn speed.
A burn speed of 24x of cd's is hardly max unless you are using some pretty old cd's - 52x and 48x is the norm.

What I mean is that I select a slow speed and then check the box for "Determine maximum speed" to make sure that when I burn the cd, it won't die on me. Having said that, should I be burning at a faster rate than what I am currently? Also, should I bother checking the "Determine maximum speed" button? Thanks for the input.

    Cheers.

The determine max speed can be helpful if your using new media.
If I have media made by a manufacturer I haven't used before I'll check this box 1st - the speeds should be listed. Like if your using 16x dvd media on a 16x dvd burner - it should list up to 16x. If it doesn't then the drive's firmware may not support the media you I'd burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media.

If your using 48x or 52x cd-r - I'd bump up the burn speed to 32x.
