Hi to all.I have succesfully ripped a dvd using vcd galaxy v2.4 which has left me with 5 vob files. The problem is in the first vob which contains a trailor of the film i ripped. When I come to encoding only the trailor gets any audio and the first part of the film is silent. However all the other vobs play fine through power dvd.Is there a way I can get rid of the trailor and have all the movie and audio in sync.thanks for any advice.

    Jesus, you're in a mess, ain't ya bilkido? <gg>

As I've mentioned, I'm not familiar with galaxy. Which has.....

bilkido> ... left me with 5 vob files.

Well, so far so good. :)

bilkido> ...problem is... in the first vob which contains a trailer of the film I ripped.

Not surprising. Hollywood does that. It's known as 'free advertising' and has no business in being on people's main dvd files. Let's go on...

bilkido> When I come to encoding, only the trailer gets any audio, and the first part of the film is silent.

Well, this tells me that the manufacturer has chosen to put the audio track for a) the movie, and b) the trailer, in separate places. You need to ignore the trailer's audio-track placement *completely* - choose another audio stream immediately. If the trailer winds up having NO audio at all, don't worry - we're gonna dump (edit out) this puppy in a moment anyway.

bilkido> However, all the other vobs play fine through Power-dvd.

That is because, unlike galaxy, the .ifo file is telling Power-dvd where to go to get the proper audio stream, which is, believe it or not, Hollywood's attempt to make ripping as difficult as possible for decent chaps like you 'n me.

This sounds like a "sneaky" dvd. Slipping an unasked-for movie trailer under the carpet *as a part of* the first movie vob, *with a different audio-stream* from the remaining 4 vobs, is oh! so typical of Hollywood. I'd LOVE to have a copy of this original dvd, so that I could flog the s*** out of it, and give you back a perfect vcd copy of the movie!

At best, you will have to choose a diferent audio stream. (When downmixed, who cares if the original audio stream is 5.1 surround or Dolby 2-channel?). At worst, you will have to rip and process the vobs seperately. (Just two rips: a) the first vob; b) the remaining 4.) The last four vobs will fall in line bilkido; the correct audio stream for the last 4 will be the same, so that part is easy.

I think this rip is going to require cut-&-paste, (edit-&-merge) but only for the first vob. IGNORE the trailer's soundtrack, whatever it's language is, or even if it's silent - just choose whatever audio stream you must to get the first vob's MOVIE soundtrack correct.

Process the remaining vobs as usual.

<bilkido> ... get rid of the trailer and have all the movie and audio in sync.

You're going to have to manually edit-out the disgusting trailer - no other option. (Try TMPEnc, although I'm having edit-problems with it myself).

Your out-of-sync problem with this movie (I've tried to address this in another post of yours)just adds over-all confusion to this one, in that they are totally separate issues, bilkido.

Get the full movie first, then we'll try to fix-up the sync-thing.

If you're not totally confused at this point, I hope this helps.

    Regards,
