I have been monitoring a number of threads to learn how to use DVD Decrypter, Shrink and Nero Express so I can back-up my DVD movies. I haven't gotten past DVD Decrypter yet.

When I load in a DVD, I get two I/O errors from DVD Decrypter. The errors I get are the following:

    I/O Error!

    Device:[1:1:0] TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B TS04 (E:)(SCSI)

    CDB: 28 00 00 00 04 4B 00 00 20 00
    Interpretation: Read (10) - Sectors: 1099 - 1130

    Reason: The parameter is incorrect.

    I/O Error!

    Device:[1:1:0] TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B TS04 (E:)(SCSI)

    CDB: 28 00 00 00 26 BC CD 00 00 20 00
    Interpretation: Read (10) - Sectors: 2538702 - 2538733

    Reason: The parameter is incorrect.

I press "ignore" both times and it show all the files on the DVD. When I begin ripping the DVD, it gets 57% of the way through when it quits reading the DVD. It goes from 3.5X read rate to 0 in about 10 seconds. It always does it at the same VOB. I have cleaned the DVD twice with no improvement.

I have tried using the option "ignore read errors", but that has not solved it. I have also tried to use the settings suggested by a "ScubaPete" that I read in a different forum. All to no avail.

    Any suggestions?

Have you tried decrypting a different DVD to see if you have the same problem? Some easy quick start guides are at http://www.dvdshrink.info . There are a lot of pictures and they're easy to understand. Once you get started, you may want to check out some more in depth guides such as the ones at http://www.doom9.org .

Your errors seem to indicate a problem with the source you're recording. DVDInfoPro is a good app to use for checking media for errors. It's freeware and you can download it from the net. The icons explain their function as you scroll across them with info boxes. The icon with the magnifying glass is the one that checks for disc errors.

    Brobear,

Thanks for responding. Yes, I have tried it on other DVDs with the same results. First the I/O Error. Then ignore the I/O Error, only to have it quit reading after many files and some time has elapsed. At least it is consistent. There is only 1 file on the DVD that it will quit reading.

I will take your advice and download a copy of DVDInfoPro to see it that will help.

Is there another DVD Ripper that I could try?

Slysoft probably has one of the best. It's a driver type, all you do is let it run and it breadks the encryption so the PC handles the DVD as if there was no encryption. There is a full function trial good for 3 weeks. Read the product description while at the site to get a good idea of the function. http://www.slysoft.com DVD43 is a similar freeware app. Not as good, but was recently updated for unreadable sector encryption http://www.d v d 4 3.com (no spaces, copy and paste link and delete spaces). You can check under software here at AD and at http://www.Doom9.org . Some people use Smartripper, but I don't know when the last time it was updated. Personally, I use AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter.

Try using the AnyDVD with Shrink and see what happens.
