I have a home movie made by a "professional" in another country and it plays just fine on any DVD player on any computer I have found.
However, I cannot play it on a regular (cheap) DVD player attached to my TV set. The DVD player says "check the media".

I have tried DVD Shrink 3.1 and Nero, just like I can do with other videos, but this one is different. I get no error messages and it seems to copy just fine, but in the end I get a duplicate of the original.

The DVD contains the follwoing files:
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.VOB
    VTS_01_0.BUP
    VTS_01_0.IFO
    VTS_01_1.VOB
    VTS_01_2.VOB
    VTS_01_3.VOB
    VTS_01_4.VOB

Can anyone suggest a solution? This is a movie of my dad's 100th birthday party.

    Maybe PAL or NTSC differences?

Yes, the TV system in that country is PAL.

    Thanks, that's one way.
But I would prefer a method of copying the DVD for some family members/friends.

Surely there must be a way to convert it?
