I was wondering if I can record movies or TV shows off my Directv satellite reciever on to my computer like a PVR would. Also what software/Hardware package is the best for this and can I set times on my computer for the hardware/software to start recording the show like while Im at work so that I can come home and play it back off my PC to my TV. I already have a DVD burner and a nice graphics card and plenty of RAM and a big CPU.

Check out some of the ATI TV tuner (capture) cards and their offerings. Then check out "Beyond TV" software- supposed to be some good stuff there.
You can either add an all-in-one card that replaces your current video (agp, on-board, pci express graphics) setup or add a pci expansion card that works in conjunction with your current setup.
