I have two xboxes, both are 1.6. One xbox i did not backup the eeprom and now the xbox hard drive has lost its X,Y, and Z partitions. The hard drive is wiped. The eeprom wont boot the hard drive since the hard drive does not have its unique hdd key anymore.

I have a second xbox that i recently bought. It is a used one from ebgames for 80 bucks. Its softmodded. I was wondering if there is a way to restore the broken xbox with the new one, probably hotswapping or something.

    I dont have a modchip.

As long as the Xbox isn't suffering an Error 5 or 6, you should be able to hotswap and restore a clean dash. I'd try that first!

Even if i put the whole working dash, would the xbox still accept the hard drive even though the hard drive does not have the unique hdd key anymore and i didnt make a copy of my eeprom.

    Why is it unlocked?

Like I said, if it's not having 5\6 errors, then the eeprom is fine!

So, your saying that if i freshly installed the C drive and restored the hard drive to factory conditions, and i put it in the xbox, then the xbox would accept it and would work?
What im saying is that isn't the eeprom going to reject the hard drive since the hard drive doesnt have the unique hdd key on it anymore.
Even if the hard drive works and the eeprom is still fine, the eeprom wont accept the hard drive since i never backed up my eeprom onto my computer.
Say, that if i would load unleashx on my new xbox and i would turn on the old xbox, then would i be able to swap the hard drives while the xboxes are on?
I could install a clean dash and everything.
But the eeprom is in my way.

Ok, you're getting way ahead of yourself!

Does the Xbox give an Error 5\6? If yes, then you have either the wrong eeprom or no eeprom.

If it doesn't give one of these errors, but instead throws up an Error 21 for example, then you know that the eeprom is still intact on the Xbox.

If it's still intact, then we can hotswap (Get the Xbox to unlock it), then change all the dash files!

My xbox wont boot any cds.
    I have xbox error 16.
I tried using hdunlock and hddisable but when i use hddisable, it says "Device Not Ready".
I ran config magic on my other box and while it was on, i switched both hard drives and clicked on the hdd unlock option, it goes through the proccess then ends with hdd could not unlock.
Should i try to load a rescue disk and switch the hard drive when the rescue disk is loaded?

Ok, Error 16 means that your eeprom is IN PLACE!!!

Have you tried to hotswap it? Unplug the DVD drive and let it go to Error 12. Then continue with the hotswap, restoting the Xbox to STOCK (Very Important)!!!

So if I unplug the DVD Drive, will the xbox unlock the harddrive?
The microsoft logo wont show when i boot the xbox up with everything intact.

OH PLEASE LET IT BE THAT THE HARDDRIVE WILL UNLOCK WITH THAT DVD DRIVE OUT GIVING THE ERROR 12!!

    Yep, now you're getting it!

If it boots to the 11\12 error, the HDD is unlocked. You can then continue the Hotswap tutorial!

Believe me, i'm up to my hearts content with trying to unlock this S***. I hotswap the harddrive with the computer, which I then tried the hdunlock and hddisable programs, but to no avail. Mind you, I only tried unplugging the harddrive after the error screen appears.
Should i try unplugging it before the error screen shows and while it show the xbox logo,(it doesnt show the moirosoft).

    Hang on....

Did you unplug the HDD and put it into your computer?

Hotswap means that the HDD stays in the Xbox with the power on (Hot) and you swap (Swap) the IDE cable into the PC. You do not need to unlock it, it's already unlocked. You then use 360Explorer to change the files...

360 is a pain in the arse, make sure it detects in your BIOS too. You may just have to keep trying.

What do you mean by Error 16? I know that's the original problem, but we want to force it to show Error 12!

Yeah, when it goes to the Error 12 screen, start hotswapping, the drive is unlocked!
