Ok, I have searched the forums and can't find an answer so I am hoping someone can answer my question.

About a year or so ago a very kind Kittymat helped me after I updated (via internet) USB Loader GX and it failed. I was advised to update the Wii with the new .wad which worked a treat.

Now I am wanting to update it again (because some of the games freeze and it's over a year out of date) but I am worried that same issue will happen and I will be in same spot!

I use the Loader as a channel so wii boots then I select the channel. My question is, if I go into the settings and update it through the wifi (as I did last time) and it fails again is it easy enough to just update the .wad again? Is this a known issue with the internet updates for those using the Loader as a channel? Or was that probably just a one off for me?

Any assistance would be very much appreciated as I'd rather know what I am doing this time and get it right.

    Welcome back again

It depends on the wad you installed, there is a forwarder wad and a full channel wad.

If you use the full channel then GX loader will still work if there is no SD card in the front of the Wii - otherwise it will lock up at the GX logo

With a forwarder, this WAD just tells the Wii to look for the program on the SD card or the Hard Drive (on either the SD or HDD you will have an apps folder with a usb_loader folder inside it and in this folder will be a file called boot.dol - this is the actual program)

All the latest updates for GX are for the forwarder only, not for the full channel, for the latest boot.dol (rev 1209) you need to google "usb loader gx google.code" go to the issues tab then 1769, this is the beta thread and the latest boot.dol will be towards the bottom of the page.

If you have the forwarder just delete the boot.dol on the sd or hdd and replace it with the new boot.dol.

If you have the channel then you need to install the forwarder.wad, ask again if you need to do this as it is a bit more in depth then just swapping a file on the sd or hard drive

Thanks so much for your reply!

I must be using the full channel because I took the SD card out and it loaded everything except for artwork/covers so it looks like not so simple to update. Can you please give me or point me in the direction to instructions?

Once I have done this I need to do USB Configurable loader whic is just as old but I'll start a new thread for that one!

    Thanks again :)

First you need to delete the channel or channels start the wii and go to data management / channels and delete the gx loader and cfg channel. I would also copy everything on your SD card to your PC just in case.

Next google modmii, this runs on a pc and will update the wii for you (latest cios's stop a lot of issues)once installed select w run the wizard as if the wii was unmodded, this will also download cfg loader for you, ( if you have an SD card in your pc at the time you can direct modmii to put everything on it for you) follow the generated guide (you already have the homebrew channel so after this point) But don't do it yet, you need to add another file to the WAD folder modmii has created

Fox GX go to the goggle.code page listed above and in downloads, download the all in one 249 package. Once extracted you will see a WAD folder and in this there is a usbloader_gx-UNEO_Forwader.WAD, copy this to the WAD folder created by modmii as you want to install this at the same time.

Install everything from modmii (inc GX you added)by following the guide (it puts a copy on your SD card if you have lost it

next you can clean up your sd card by runnning the file clean up from modmii and then replace any files you had on your sd card prior to modmii back on it in the same place as before.

To complete GX you need to Copy the files (boot.dol, icon.png and meta.xml) from the download of the all in one package in the Apps/usb loader to the same place on your SD card

GX should now work but you may have to set up the configuration again, you have also set up CFG as well - both now work from forwarders so to update you just have to change the boot.dol in the apps/loader folder

Oh goodness that sounds very complicated lol.... Last time I updated through wifi and turned out all I needed to do was add the latest .wad through Wad Manager. I am wondering if I download through the GX Loader channel and then install the latest .wad if it does not work.

Either that or I just leave the kids to use the original disks purchased and let them get all scratched up. That'll cost me a fortune to replace them.

What are your thoughts on updating from the Loader Channel?

The latest channel available is the official v3.0 release (available on the gx developers site)

This is not the latest but probably newer than the one you have.

If you follow my guide it is very straight forward (just looks a lot as I have tried to put in all the steps)it will also updtae the cios's (you may need this for some newer games - if they black screen or freeze at the same point when loading or peripherals (mics) don't work)

Thanks Megadunderherad! I have since discovered that updating such an old version is not possible throigh wifi as they have decommissioned server so I have to update it manually using the .wad. Can you please tell me if i have this right? I use USBLoader All In One Package, save the .wad file to the 'Wad' folder on my SD then use Wad Manager to install it. Will this update the whole prog for me including any dols etc that are needed? Is there any chance of it failing and not being able to use the older version?

Using 2.2 should I do the 2.3 first then the 3? Or just go right to the 3?

Just straight to 3, the update installs the complete program, not just updates.

Get WAD manager 1.7 and put it in the apps folder
Get the GX 3.0 WAD and put it on the SD card (I usually make a WAD folder and put it in there (easier to find)

Run WAD manager from the homebrew channel (if it asks for a cios use 222 or 249) install your WAD

You are now updated to the last release 3.0 - this will also give you the option of NAND emulation

Awesome, thanks! I will have to do this now as I purchased Harry Potter on the weekend for the kids and today I backed it up and it wont play. PLUS now I am getting Error 002 for most of my games already backed up - ones which worked up till now! Looks like I have to dig the originals out and start backing up again after I fix it, what a mission. Let you know how I go as if this does not do the trick I will need to man up and try Modmii lol. Thanks mate.

    002 error

Once you have updated the 3.0 WAD
Check the option in GX for the setting. 002 error - this should be set to ANTI

Most new games need a cios with a base of 56 to work correctly (some need 57 - microphone games and Call of Duty etc). So GX may not fix your issues.

Modmii is not difficult, it asks all the questions and gives you a step by step guide (with screen pics!)

I found that setting in GX and it was set to default. Not sure what is going on really because the only change that has been made is the backup of the game I purchased. I will try the GX update manually. Last time we spoke (when I updated GX through wifi and it failed) you told me how to install 56 that I did through Wad Manager.
I'll let you know REALLY appreciate your help!

O M Goodness... finally using GX V3 (what was I worried about? that wa easy as!!) however not all is in order. When loading some games (some work others don't -all but one ((harry Potter))were pre backed up), some I get black screen, some get to the start and don't play and others just take me back to the Wii menu.

My Wii nightmare all over again 18 months later :(

    1) Go to the apps/usb_loader folder and delete the .cfg file - lots has changed since you last updated.

    2) I have some recollection that the video setting for default has changed so in the main settings page make sure that the video is set to console default (If your wii is from your region)

    3) On the ones that black screen (and go back to the wii menu) change the video setting for the game to force to your reqion (i.e Force NTSC, Force PAL 50)- most games will now work.

    4) go to the credits option in the GX loader, in the top right of the screen it will tell you what cios the loader is running on (and what revision).

5)Get a program called wiibackupmanager, this runs on your pc, insert the hard drive into your pc and direct the program to look at that drive, this will give you a list of all your games and one of the columns is the ios it runs on. It also shows what region the games run on, this will help you set up the individual settings for the games that do not work.

I still think you will have to update your cios's!
