any point in upgrading from an e6300(@3ghz) to q6600?
yes, my motherboard supports it but is it worth it? any real life performance gains?

Depends what you consider "worth" to be.

If you believe spending £80-100 (after you have sold ur e6300 2nd hand) for a system that is 4 core @ 3.2Ghz a worthy investment go for it.

The Q6600 has been ran at 3.0Ghz on the standard HSF, even higher.

Me personally wouldnt have a problem in investing in it.

    oh yea
and i am not getting it for the reguar $300, i am getting for $150 from a friend... so lets say i dont relly need it for now, will future games(in the near future) have an advantage with the 2 more cores?
    thanks

Im sure eventually games will take advantage of the quad core architecture. The way things are, they designed graphics cards to take the strain off the cpu, well now the cpu's arent really being used that much in some games, and the video card is really overdriven. Maybe games manufacturers should utilise quad core technology to use the "unused" cores to help the GPU.
