    Hi
I have a microsoft optical mouse that is playing up.
I had it connected through ps2 using a usb - ps2 converter, and it freezes up and stops working.
So I unplugged it and ran it straight into usb - now it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, making the annoying alert noise in Windows XP.
It only seems to do this when actually moving the cursor - it stays connected fine until you move it.
Does this seem likely to be a problem with the mouse itself, or with the computer?
    Thanks

Is this a cordless mouse? Have you tried uninstalling then reinstalling the driver that came with it? The problem is "usually" with the driver or settings, and not the pc.

    Cheers.

try taking off the ps2 adapter and just running it in the usb slot.

yes - as per my original post, I have already tried going sraight into the usb - and it continually disconnects and reconnects... possibly a new mouse may solve the issue. It's not cordless, just standard
