can free web proxies such as http://send2source.net be used in p2p clients or are they only good for browsing the p2p sites?

They have about as much bandwidth as dial up. They are fine for downloading the torrents but not the actual files. That was fine in the good old days when certain sites were blocked. Once you had the torrent, you could tap into the torrent network and get enough traffic without ever getting to the site. VPN is much safer.
