very new

    i am very new at this and looking for an external dvd burner to go with my notebook. i have a 1394 hookup but no usb2. what would i look for?

    an external dvd burner that would have a firewire connection. another option would be a card that would have some usb connectors on it. usb 2.0 is just as good if not better than usb 2.0, last time i checked. some other good things to look for a double layer, the media is quite expensive now, but it is dropping. and dual format as well.

    They should have USB 2 cards that will go into the card slot on most notebooks.

    look for a pcmcia card. www.tigerdirect.com is a good place to start.

    i bought io magic. i hadd issues at first but now it works awesome. tdk makes a good product, i especially lked the velocd burners. sony should be okay, lite on. go over to www.cnet.com and do some research!

    The top 2 choices in burners would be Plextor and then Pioneer. You can't go wrong with either.
