I just converted a small DVD file to an AVI (6.61 MB)and "zipped" it. It became 6,477 KB. I want to email this file but I am told it is too large. Should I have converted to a different format (mpeg1?) so it will be smaller than an avi? I thought AVI's were generally "smaller" than mpeg's. How can I make it small enough to email? TIA

avi is not the smaller. even mpeg 2 format produces files approx to 1/3 of the avi file. Of course mpeg 1 is the most convinient encoding for space consuming files. on the other hand the quality is the worst among the above mentioned cases. you must decide which factor is most imortant in every case. ending avi is not compressed at all (as far as i know).

    AVI is just a container.
If you want the smallest for email, try WMV from Windows Movie Maker.
