duboy, take a look at the can shaped objects on your motherboard that are capacitors as they are supposed to be flat topped not domed. do you have a spare psu just to test the motherboard & a videocard?
thats a good point, it could be that the new graphics card needs a PSU with a higer voltage, I have had a lot of good luck with antec PSUs, the 430watt for 74.99 at Canada Computers runs my system fine (my system has a 7600nvidia graphics card)
the capacitors are good, they are all flat topped from what i see. I can check another psu. Do you want me to just hook up another psu to everything? or just hook the psu to a video card and motherboard? Also, i doubt that card i got takes more power than the 32mb agp card that was in it, but ill try. Thanks
duboy, just the motherboard as unlikely your card needs extra power too. mike, were are you located as appears to be in canada & in ontario?
ok, im going to try and find another psu. Im not sure if i have one or not but if i dont, is there another step to check? thanks
ya, Canada Ontario, why? I work at a computer store in Milton. How did you find that out??? (that i live in Canada Ontario)
you might be able to borrow one at a PC shop, we have tones around, we use them to check systems *sorry for posting twice
ok. So i got another psu, tested the motherboard with the video card plugged in and it actually displayed. I switched back to the regular psu and then this time this psu worked. I booted up the computer to the desktop and my ethernet card wouldnt start(i went to device manager) and only half of my ram is showing up. I have four slots of ram, and switch the right two slots with the left two slots. This still only showed half of my ram. I think maybe the psu is going slowly. Do you think that is it?
so when the new PSU is in there are no problems??? sounds like your old one is slowly going and does not have the power for you new card, i am sure you can get a new one for not too much money.
the other psu i tested with is going fine with just the video card and motherboard. Im going to hook everything up to it and see how it does and then ill let you know. Hopefully this solves the problem. Thanks for the help
hopefully not in that order I moved the jumper over on a pc once to reset the bios.............. heard the kettle boil and went to make tea when i came back i turned the computer on it sort of burnt out fron the jumper very simular to the opening screen in bonanza where the map burns
just used the psu again and had everything running this time but the same thing happened as before and half the ram and network card both arent working. Any ideas? ---just turned it back on again.. with the testing psu and it wont display. Could my mobo or something on it be bad that would cause something like this? thanks
duboy, try 1 stick of ram at a time in a slot that allows the pc to post then test all the ram in that slot to see if all post individually. possibility your motherboard is going. mike, i live just south of barrie.
oh, cool ddp, but how did you find out i lived in Canada Ontario??? that memory idea sounds good. I am really out of ideas, how much wattage is that new PSU giving out??? and can you mabey give us the specs of your system?
alright, i tried my ram before separate and they didnt work. Just so you know though, i specifically remember my ram working and picking up all 256mb, but once this stuff started with the video, i noticed the ram didnt fully pick up. So is it possible that this mobo is actually bad and i need a new one? I found one on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=320134217005&rd=1&rd=1 same as mine now, would it be smart to get it? Thanks
alright, might as well try it. I couldnt really think of anything else that could be wrong. Can you think of anything else?
