I have been using vidomi for a fair while mow to encode eposodic DVD's (like Boston Legal and Stargate)to DivX in individual files per episode. Vidomi is simple and I can add all the VOB's that I rip using DVD decrypter and then select an individual source range and file for each episode. I use 3 pass, and other than the occasional audio sync problem which I have always been able to resolve I have superb video and audio.

    However...
All of a sudden I get the error "Encoder failed to initialize properly" and I can't get Vidomi to work. I have researched as much as I can and it seems there is no solution to this. I have tried reinstalling, but the problem remained.

I downloaded AutoGK and I must say I don't like it at all. I can only add one file at a time, and I think it wants IFO's or something. My problem is each VOB file rarely correlats to a eppisode on these DVD's. Obviously the studios do this to make it more difficult to copy, but I find that one VOB file might be 0.8 of an eppisode or sometimes 1.5 of an episode.

I found a thread that said it was a quick and dirty guide to using AutoGK.
    Link here; http://forums.2cpu.com/archive/index.php/t-23618.html

It is at least 3 times more involved than the vidomi method. All I want is a simlpe program that will allow me to encode eposodic dvd's to divx.

So I guess my question is. Is there a fix to Vidomi or something that will do the same thing. Another alternative is that I am an idiot and need to learn a simple way to make AutoGK turn a collection of VOB's into indiviual files in sizes that I want, and not those set by the size of each VOB file.

Any help will be much appreciated..

After ripping the DVD, run DVD Shrink.
    Open the VIDEO_TS folder
Select 'Reauthor' and on the right side of the window the titles will be listed.
Say there were eight episodes, there would be a group of eight titles with the same approximate running time.
Drag those titles from right to left side of window and 'Backup'
Save the output to a folder.

    Run AGK.

Load the first episode from the VIDEO_TS folder produced by DVD Shrink (probably VTS_01_0.IFO).
    Set an output path.
Select a custom size for the output (700mb?).
    Click 'Add Job'.

Select the next title (VTS_02_0.IFO?) and 'Add Job'
When all are in the queue, click start.

I don't know why it's failing, but it might be related to the reason why your original converter failed.

The solution (only for AGK) was to merge a .reg file (right click on the file and choose 'merge' from the sub-menu) located in the AGK installation directory.

Did you ever try a 'System Restore' to the time you knew 'Vidomi' was working?

    http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=76335

    C:\Program Files\AutoGK\VDubMod\aviproxy and merge the file proxyoff.reg

I never tried a system restore, but the was no change to the computer when it stopped working. No software or hardware changes no crashes or freezes. It wasn't even restarted, it just worked for ages then after one encode recently it just stopped and hasn't worked since.

I tried the registry merge, but get the same error as before. I am not sure if I really want a system restore, I don't know how far back it will go - in the past I have found them very problamatic and am not very fond of them.

Surely there is another program capable of converting to divX - one that works

Use FairUse for DivX, I think it's better than AutoGord,I've had no problems with FairUse.

It seems the Fairuse struggles with eposodic dvd's (I can't find a guide or work out how to get it to select anything but the first episode)

I am going to give Dr DivX a go

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a guide that can help me with Dr DivX and episodic DVD's. At the moment I can only get all the episodes on a disc as one file. I want each episode as a seperate file, however most DVD's I encounter have say one VOB file for half an episode, then the next VOB for the first half of one and the second half of another.

Basically I need a way to select the video source range from the VOB (or ISO) files and creat each episode as a separate file.

I really miss Vidomi, it is by far the best of all these programs (until it broke anyway)

    Any help appreciated
