Also if i use the TMPGEnc program, once i covert it to mpeg 2 am i able to join them with virtual dub or will that not work. I am so new at this plz help. SHould i use dub first to join them then encode them as a whole or what?

dub won't do any mpeg1/2 joining.
tmpeg will. still if its basically in the same setting.
    fps, etc

just put it as a chapter rather than combining it like that

Why don't you just two movies in the same disc? By clicking 'next' you'll go to the following one...joining is not needed at all... author the movies on the same DVD, instead.
(ah, TMPGenc File___Merge & Cut just merges MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 movies (depending on the 'type' you set...)
