vista and xp share with eachother

    i used to be able to do this but i cant figure out how to make my vista laptop share with my xp desktop computer that is using a linksys router

    Assuming you already setup the folders for sharing on each PC, make sure you can ping each other.

    On eachcomputer go to Start > Run > 'cmd' > OK
    Type in 'ipconfig' to find out the IP address of each machine
    If using like a linksys router the default is 192.168.xxx.xxx
    After you have both IP's type in 'ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' (IP of the other computer)
    Make sure you get 4 replies back

    If you get replies both ways, you can verify that it works by going to Explorer and in the top bar type in '\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\sharename' (using the IP address of the other computer) and hit enter.

    It should open the shared folder on the other computer.

    you need to do a lot more than that. go into THIS thread, and go through each post, as they are in steps.
