    Hi there,

I have an issue where, ever since I installed Vista, my desktop image has a small black line running across the screen at various times and various places. It changes location depending on if I run a different application or if I reboot. It may not change at all sometimes. Other times, there are even 2 or 3 of these black lines and I cannot seem to find anything about this issue. I can't even take a screen shot. If I had to replicate the problem to give you a visual, all I can do is use a sample image of a Vista wallpaper (or any wallpaper, doesn't matter what you use) and draw a line about one inch long, horizontally, on any place of the image, relatively closer to the top and that's exactly what it looks like.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It could possibly be one of three issues I can think of.

    The monitor.
    The drivers.
    Or...the video card.

Try testing the monitor on another system if it's possible.
Try the newest beta drivers for Vista here:
    http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_rel70betadriver.html

To test the video card, you might have to run benchmarks or a game, and see if the problem exists there.

    Ok.....back to basics.

    What are your system specs?

Ok, I haven't really written on a forum so excuse my ignorance or over-indulgence of information....
I have an HP 7650n, Intel Core 2 CPU, 32 bit O.S, 3 megs of RAM, Intel G965 express chipset display adapter. I'm running an HP f1905 (19 inch) flat screen monitor (but the monitor is not the problem).

I hope that's all the info you need.

    Ok, found a fix.
For those that have this issue....

    Boot up in safe mode,
    Open up your device manager,
Go to Display Adapters and right click on whatever entry(ies) are listed.
    Uninstall the display adapter.
    Reboot in normal mode.
    Go to this link...
    http://downloadmirror.intel.com/df-support/13185/a08/winvista_154.exe
    Install
and install the new driver. DO NOT let windows updates run and install your driver.
    This should fix the problem.
