I have some questions on encoding wedding footage to dvd. What is an average amount of footage you are encoding to dvd. What are you using to encode it? I need to get an idea of what I am in store for.

    Hi rikit,

A DVD-/+R can contain about 2 hours of good quality video and about 4 hours of VHS-like video.

There are a lot of all-in-one tools for video editing + DVD authoring on the market. They cost between 60 and 120 $. They integrate an MPEG2 encoder, but you'll get the best image quality with a standalone encoder:

    - TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator (40 $)
    - TMPGEnc Plus (50 $)
    - CCE Basic (60 $)

If you go with a standalone encoder, you also need a video editing tool and a DVD authoring tool.

For video editing, have a look at Windows Movie Maker 2 (if you are running Windows). It's free and not bad at all.

    DVD authoring tools:
    - DVDAuthorGui (free)
    - DVD Styler (free)
    - TMPGEnc DVD Author (70 $)
    - DVD-Lab (100 $)

    Enjoy.
