    Hi.

Are you using good quality media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and Made in Japan labeled Fuji and Sony?

Are you burning at half or less the rated speed of the media? If you're burning at Max speed with poor quality media, your player may not be able to read the disk.

Have you checked for firmware updates for your burner?

Have you tried any +R or -R media, not RW. Your player isn't reading the disks you burn. That seems the likely cause.

    Hi.

These were downloaded AVI files that you converted to be DVD compliant -- is that correct?

I do not know where you're located, but is it possible you have downloaded PAL broadcast format files and your DVD player plays back only NTSC broadcast format files or v.v.? Many PC software players will play back both NTSC and PAL format video. Unless you have a DVD player that plays back both formats, it'll choke on the wrong format. It'll usually give an illegal disk, incorrect format, or some other error message though.

If the above is the case, you'll have to do a conversion before they'll be playable on your standalone player. ConvertX can do that for you as can Nero.

Try using ImgBurn to burn your disks instead of Nero. See if that makes a difference. Just output an ISO image file from Shrink and burn that with ImgBurn.

    http://www.imgburn.com (free)

Maybe you're using carppy quality media and trying to burn it too fast. Post one of the sections of your Nero History log for one of your burns. The log is in this path:

    Program Files > Nero > Nero7 > Core > NeroHistory

Sections represent a burn attempt and begin with a header followed by your name and Nero serial number. Post only one of the sections, not the entire log. Be sure to delete your name and serial number from the post.

    Hi.

There are actually two log sections posted so you have another serial number to delete about half way down your post. To enter edit mode, click the paper/pencil icon in the upper right of the post to be edited.

It appears you installed Nero 7 over the top of Nero 6 which isn't a particularly good idea. You might want to uninstall your current version of Nero 7 and then run both the Nero 6 and Nero 7 Clean Tools. Then install the latest version of Nero 7. Be sure to write down your Nero serial number someplace. You'll need it to reinstall.

    http://www.nero.com/nero6/enu/Nero_6_CleanTool.html
    http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html

    Nero 7 update: http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php

The drive isn't identifying the actual maker of the -RW media you're using which isn't a good sign. Since you have the Nero suite, put one of the RW disks in the burner, load up the Nero InfoTool and post back the actual manufacturer ID. It's listed under the Disc tab.

Try using some +R or -R media like Verbatim or Sony/Fuji made in Japan. It may be the media causing the problem.

I would advise to get some dvd+r or dvd-r instead of -rw. You can go to Circuit City, Best Buy, Office Max, Office Depot, or Staples to get some Verbatims. Or go buy Verbatims or Taiyo Yudens from online store. Can't recommend any online places as I have always brought my dvds in B&M

    Hi.

It may still be something else, but we need to rule out media as the culprit. ConvertX is pretty foolproof. So we're left with bad quality burns as the likely cause. Any number of things can cause bad burns. Media is an obvious one and a good starting point.
