Are any external hard drives that are preferred over certain ones? Or any problems with certain ones?

Here is a thread on the x360key forum that has a list:

From what I've seen, I would stay away from enclosures that are usb 3 as they can have issues and the speed over usb 2 isn't needed at all for this situation.

I'm using a old ide 3.5" drive 250g in a rosewill usb 2 enclsoure, this is it at newegg:

Hey there mate, I have the same drive. Formatted to Windows NT NTFS, have a "game" folder.. But when I turn on the xbox and select open disc.. Nothing happens.. Then press "A" again to close disc and again.. nothing..

do you give enough time for the xk3y to recognize the drive? i have a 1.5 verbatim (inside is a western digital) and it takes mine about 3 mins to read it, the bigger the drive the longer it takes, once its found and and you want to change games its not as long as that, no where near infact, just wait for the drive to be found

I have left it for 10 minutes and more and still no good.. Is it something to do with the USB 3.0? Should I buy a 2.0 hub?

I couldn't tell you why yours isn't working. Mine usually takes anywhere from 10-20 seconds for the XKey to recognize. I've tried a few other hard drives which, simply didn't work at all.

Have you tried any other hard drives? A thumb drive, perhaps? I'd try something else and see if you can get the XKey to recognize it. If you can't, there's something wrong with the XKey or the way you installed it. If you've gotten other drives or storage devices to work, then I'm not sure why it won't recognize the 2TB drive.
